Aye but worraboot Sue Gray....it's all a conspiracy.... now where else do we hear these type of excuses?
More questions emerging about the job offer, including when the first conversation took place. Cant believe somebody didnt predict all this. Also early sound bites that nothing is yet confirmed and it may not happen after all.
I doubt it's a surprise to anyone. But why should they ignore someone they feel is the right person for a role because people who've proven themselves to be opportunistic and untrustworthy are slinging mud? The issue isn't that they're slinging mud, it's that people are deliberately distracting themselves by saying "all this mud slinging is distracting". There isn't a case to answer as far as I can see and anyone who thinks "partygate" was a stitch up is reaching the conclusion that they want in my opinion. Of course if the Conservatives have any evidence to back up their accusations then they should present it and it should be reviewed accordingly. But I don't think anyone really believes there's anything untoward here.
Didn't all the Tories say Sue Gray was someone of the highest standards of integrity and honesty ... ... they can hardly call her a lying cow now can they
Of course there isn't. It's just politicking. This is what we have to face today, anything that can be used, will be used, to score political points.
They can say that she'd been tapped up for the job as a reward for providing the right result. Difficult to say either party doesn't have form for this kind of thing. Baroness Chakrabati anyone?
I agree with you mate. I am not advocating for the tories here. I just think it is entirely predictable behaviour. I hope Labour dont back pedal on this, but early signs are they might. They can go for whoever they think is best, but they are naieve if they think the noise will not be loud. It wont be just from the tories either, make no mistake the media are building up an ammo stash ahead of the next majority govt. Apparently sunak can block it entirely. If he thinks there is a risk she might divulge info about what happened in tory govt she was part of. Personally think both Starmer and Sunak are between a rock and a hard place on this. Starmer has all the cards though, he can just stand up and say she is my choice, best for our country, and I dare you to stop it. His lead can cope with this confrontation, I hope he grabs the bull by the horns and calls everyone out. He just better make sure there is no whatsapps floating around from his party to sue gray, whilst the inquest was ongoing.
TBH I've no idea what all that's about. Not everything that's happening in the present can be discounted or dismissed by events of the past.
That has no relevance to the point I made. The enquiry is there to collate facts, it's not possible to fraudulently 'provide the right result'. No one will be accusing Sue Gray of taking a bribe, to misrepresent the facts ... ... if they they'd be open to a charge of libel/slander. People gossiping on chat forums is irrelevant.
It's not possible for an inquiry to fraudulently provide the right result? Wow. And on the point you made - if nobody's actions in the past count in the present, then what's the point in the inquiry anyway? Matt Hancock was entertaining on I'm A Celeb, best we let him off.
Sorry, just not interested in another of your endless hair-splitting sagas. You just dismiss everything you don't agree with so it's pointless then go off on meaningless tangents that have absolutely nothing to do with the point. Take it easy.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-64848101 First step in solving this imho. If people know that coming into the country this way guarantees return and not the current 'get your foot on British soil and you're here forever' situation it'll kill the people smugglers business model off. Need to be complemented by legal ways to get into the country to work though.
