Is last night the worst upset we've ever fallen victim to?

I certainly can't recall one in my two decades or so following Saints, can only think of one division gaps such as Brizzle and Tranmere.

Interested if any of our older fans can remember one worse than losing at home to a side 3 tiers below us.

Well done Grimsby. Magic of the cup n all that.

I don’t know. Probably should be but I’m a bit numb with it all really. Wasn’t going to watch but got sucked in. Think we need to reset in the championship. The sadness will be JWP leaving potentially without equaling or beating Beckhams record with us. And he’s like the last good memory of the old committed Saints. All a bit sad.

I remember getting beaten by Stockport County at the Dell in the 90s.

Think they were League One at the time.

Grimsby doesn’t really hurt imo because we are so sh*t atm, and Brighton would have battered us in the next round anyway.

Actually any of the 3x remaining Championship sides would have spanked us as well. Sounds strange to say but we’re better off out. However, I digress… Tranmere was just shocking, as was Leicester. Tbh, this & Leicester are my lowest but the 0-9 “wins”. Last night, even Sat & previous is just a pathetic disaster & I’m numb but not surprised. Yes the HOME 0-9 because no one saw that coming.

The Ronnie Rosenthal game hurt me more.

(Sorry to bring that up, should have had a trigger warning).

Its the worst I can recall since I first watched Saints in 1975. What makes it worse is that we were at home, with millions of £s of `talent` on the pitch. What compounds my misery is that Aberdeen were dumped out of the Scottish cup a few weeks ago by 6th tier Darvel. Why me ?

That was awful, but in a different way. Rosenthal had a game of football he would never repeat. One player having the game of his life won the game. Up until that point we were winning comfortably.

Bruce Grobelaar also had the game of his life, in a different kind of way, as I remember that game…

Plus I was younger, more prone to emotion, and I was there. At least I wasn't there last night...

I remember many disappointments, Denis Law winner at Villa, Gabby "Hat trick" at Wembley, Arsenal Cup defeat e.t.c. but all were hard luck stories, not humiliatons.

Definitely the worst saints performance I can remember.

At least in the 9-0s we had hope of recovering and putting some good performances in after that. At least the relegation cloggers from before had some heart.

    Lat night was just.. pathetic.

I genuinely despise most of this team. They are a disgrace to the club I love.

Bruce Grobelaar's betting syndicate connections may actually have had a bigger bearing on that game than 'Ronnie the Rocket'.

Yes, this is the worst upset I can recall in my time supporting Saints and we really should've been able to field any combination of players (in their correct positions) and got through.
Best of luck to Grimsby, it must be so exciting for them and I hope that they can give Brighton a scare in the next round.

This was the worst in my time of being a fan, which being under 30 isn’t exactly saying much but being at the stadium last night and being 2-1 down to a league 2 team and seeing our players pass the ball around the back from side to side with no aggression, seeing us completely unable to even break down their defence consistently over the course of the game with the penetration of a soft core porn film, it was just all unforgivable.

I went to the 9-0 Leicester game and as bad as it was I never felt like I wanted a refund. I’ve genuinely emailed the club for a refund for last night because I think every fan who went is owed one. £20 for that is a ****ing disgrace and the balls to send out a post match survey too just stinks of a club that can’t read the room. (I’m not expecting a refund I just needed to vent <laugh>)

It’s humiliation on top of humiliation. Those who are saying they are numb to it, just ask yourself why? The on,y reason is because it really is that bad right now. The fact so many are apathetic shows you just what state we are in. There’s no sunshine over the horizon, no light at the end of the tunnel. All anyone sees right now is endless misery, a feeling I’ve not felt since the Lowe era.

I have zero trust in this club right now. I don’t trust the players to perform, I don’t trust Selles to get performances out of the players and I don’t trust the board to get rid of the useless crap and build a coherent team. It’s just negativity everywhere and it’s entirely the clubs fault from top to bottom.

And even though it might sound mad but the second the Koeman era finished this downward trajectory started. The club consistently sold our best players, destroyed and gutted all the development the Adkins/Poch/Koeman era brought in favour of a quick buck over long term success and now all these years later we are seeing the fallout of those decisions. And post Koeman they failed to bring in good managers, except Ralph who was never backed with any considerable funding. Buying Championship strikers and then struggling to score goals, so buying untested, little experienced teenagers to be attackers with those Championship strikers (strikers who are ****). We were the PL dark horse darlings just 6 seasons ago and now we are the drug addicted problem child of the PL that everyone just doesn’t want around anymore. It may turn around but it sure as **** doesn’t look like it’s going to happen soon.

Last night we looked way way off even being a championship team.

I told a bloke at walking football on Wednesday that we would probably lose the match. I did say we would score two o.g.s. Got that wrong. I said Grimsby beat Luton. Luton would have beaten us. Saints are only a few places above Luton. Any team just needs to be more dynamic and committed than Saints, which isn’t hard. So, no I didn’t think it was a shocking result, whereas the first 9-0 was. If Messi played for Saints he would soon be infected by the Saints malaise.

I`m trying to think of which players in the current squad I would want to retain to battle our way back out of the Championship. Not many names spring immediately to mind.

Big problem will be replacing JWP and Lavia. I won’t feel confident having Diallo and Smallbone as our two CMs.

loosing 4-3 against a lower team could be Tranmere when we were 3-0 up was pretty bad. I think we were in Premiership and they were L1.
