apparently grimsby are the first team in 152 years of fa cup history to knock out five teams from higher divisions in a single season. that's impressive. 05 nov 22 grimsby 5-1 plymouth (league 2 v league 1) 26 nov 22 cambridge 1-2 grimsby (league 1 v league 2) 07 jan 2023 grimsby 1-0 burton (league 2 v league 1) 28 jan 2023 luton 2-2 grimsby 07 feb 2023 grimsby 3-0 luton (league 2 v championship) 01 mar 2023 southampton 1-2 grimsby (premier league v league 2)
It's some 'project' Acun chose to take on! A divided, decimated fan base. A squad that needed a near complete overhaul. A stadium & surrounds that desperately need development, that ultimately belongs to HCC, and is based in an area that a stubborn HCC is very protective of. A stadium that is shared with a RL club, and a city that is shared with not one but 2 RL clubs that stereotypically make things harder for City to thrive than it would otherwise do. A training ground that is way below par. An academy that is based at an FE college in a different location to the training ground and the stadium. I'm glad he chose us, but I do at times wonder why, and also wonder if he'll have the resilience to stick with it long term to achieve his ambitions.
**** that! If they check up on those who go every week it was pre-covid when I last scanned in. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I'd love to know the actual story. The lack of information due to respecting personal reasons, whilst admirable does seem odd in hindsight.
