Went with 4 and that was considered pessimistic.

If Howe doesn't change up the 11 and formation we will have a poor end to the season.

Then we go into the transfer market needing about 6 players.

    Sounds like a clever tactic.

    - 15 games is apparently "a handful of games"
    - our record since Xmas is W5 D5 L3, that is the facts.
    - one of the losses above included the FA Cup game which we obviously not bothered about it, and the League cup final, which was hardly a "mauling".
    - we weren't average against Soton, we beat them comfortably. And who cares if they were bottom, they'd comfortably put out Man City in the previous round.

I'm not getting spicy, you just ain't using facts like you claim.

    Actually quite an optimistic outlook.

Basically we need a reaction against City and a win straight after, else panic might set in.

No, just not a chronically pessimistic outlook.

"We've only got a handful of games left, we just got mauled in the final, we were average against Soton even though we won, waaaah, doom, death and despair!!!"

Facts are facts - 5th place with games in hand on 4th, best defence in league and least games lost.

4th and even 3rd still in sight, the lowest in can see us finishing is 6th, cos even if Liverpool overtake us, Fulham and Brentford won't, and Chelsea are out of it already.

Id have snapped your arm off for 6th this time last year. Trying not to lose sight of that mentality.

It's important to strike a balance between looking back and looking forward - for the second half of last year out form put us 3rd in the form table and we were in that place for a lot of this season.

6th would be an excellent improvement from 11th last year, but top 4 is still well within sight.

Finishing 6th might be the least of our problems if recent media reports are to be believed.

How is it, in anyway, to look at our league games and when asked about the future League games, base our next 5 on our past 5 form.

I included a loss against City, Man Utd, a win at home to Wolves, a loss to Forest and a draw against West Ham.

Forest havent lost at home in ****ing ages.

    West Ham away is tough.

Realistic I think we will finish 7th possibly 8th.

    What's the matter with that?

You're just being a prick to be honest because you can't handle other opinions.

Like who is "waahing?" Quote the waah.

End season, sign players, go again.

That's only pessimistic if you're ****ing deluded.

Yeah that's it, get wound up and start name calling just cos your arguments are easy to rip apart.

You claimed to be using facts, despite coming out with such horseshit as, we only had "a handful of games to go", our "cup final mauling", and trying to draw negatives from the Soton games, both of which we won.

It's not that I "can't handle" other opinions, it's an internet board, and anyone can agree or disagree with anyone.

The "waaah" was hyperbole based on the pessimism of your posts.

Saying 7th or 8th is definitely pessimistic more than realistic, as you are predicting we will finish 2 or 3 places lower than we are now, and to do that, the likes or Fulham, Brentford or Brighton would need to finish above us, and the chances of that are pretty minimal.

Saying West Ham and Forrest are tough games is meaningless, every game in this league is tough, as Bruce would say.

The cup final was a dreadful display, we had 4 shots on target, or wait, revising that - 2 shots on target according to Google.

Both Liverpool and Fulham are on 39 points, which means if we lose against City they can leap frog us.

We need wins. Not more 0-0 draws, wins. Our strike force is poor. We rely on Almiron, Wilson couldn't hit a barn door with a fistful of rice, he's been cack for WEEKS. We don't score from set pieces, ever.

I am suggesting that Liverpool and Fulham who have better forwards than Newcastle will finish above us, leaving us in 7th. Which is not unrealistic or pessimistic at all.

And I will call you "names" when instead of directing all replies to me, you pop over and reply to others like a snide directing it at me. Purely cos you don't like how it sounds.

Fulham and pool are 2 points behind us when one of them was previously 15 points behind, unrealistic tosh apparently <laugh>

They covered a 15 point gap in 5 games.

"the likes of" Fulham, Brentford or Brighton would need to finish above us, lol snide Dogscock happily leaves Liverpool out of that list. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

No you idiot, i didn't include Liverpool cos if we finished in 7th or 8th, Liverpool would obviously finish above us, that would be a given. I was taking about the other teams that would need to finish above us to make that position happen for us.

Liverpool have had a dreadful season and there's no evidence they're suddenly going to go on a great run now. We are a much stronger team overall than Fulham and if be very surprised if they finish above us.

In the final we were comfortably beaten by a better team, but to call it a mauling is ridiculous.

Facts are facts - we're 5th with games in hand on 4th having been in the top 4 almost all of the season, Wilson and Isak both average a goal every other game, and Bruno, Miggy, Joey, Willock and possibly now Gordon are all more than capable of getting goals. But hey doom and despair ahead and 8th place here we come!

Or, you realised it wasn't pessimistic at all to suggest that Liverpool will win 1 more game than us, and Fulham can easily do the same, leaving us in 7th. Which you described as pessimistic.

Liverpool have obviously had an uptick in form, they absolutely battered us like 2 weeks ago within 20 minutes, at the beginning of the season we took them to the 98th minute.

Like, I thought the mentality of you lot was top 10 and a cup run.

Now I say 7th, with a cup run and I'm a doom, despairing, waaher.

Or you're just reading something you don't like and got spicy.

The assurances were the Saudi state wouldn't interfere. They haven't, and won't. Another non-starter for Amnesty Intl who - on this particular subject - are reaching Sam Smith levels of obnoxiousness.

Urgh, let's just chillax here maybe?

If you think we'll finish 7th or 8th then fine, your opinion as is mine that we'll finish 5th with maybe a chance of 4th.

As I see it - 5th with games in hand on 4th, full squad available, 15 games to go and everything to play for.

It would appear newcastle losing the final have proved too frightening for the sports Journalists.
