Something I always found amusing was how MOTD gave him the honour of Palace v West Brom as his last game.
Very sad news RIP John Motson not just one the great commentators, but also a huge fan and ambassador for the game. For many people my age he was the voice of football. Here he is at his best (not just an excuse to play this clip)
"And I suppose they are nearer to being out of the FA Cup now than any other time since the first half of this season, when they weren't ever in it anyway." John Motson in the season that we were kicked out of the cup and then reinstated. RIP Motty.
RIP Motty, I travelled home from an away game V Derby years ago and Motty was in the same carriage, we had a great time talking to him about the game and his memories, he even let someone try on the famous sheepskin ( he had 4 of them at home) and he showed us his hand written notes and facts for the clubs and that game , the man was a true gentleman and he will be remembered fondly by me
Amazing footage The goalkeepers seem to have had a tough time. This guy was being kicked at while having the ball in his hands - one way of avoiding time wasting I guess.
There's a very strong likelihood that my paternal great grandfather was at that match. He came to London in 1906, to escape the pogroms, lived in Tottenham and originally worked at Gestetner. He was attending Spurs matches very soon after coming to London and was at the '21 Cup Final. His match programme and other memorabilia went to my father's eldest brother... Unfortunately, at the outbreak of WWII, he was interned an Internment Camp on the Isle of Man, as he came to London from Germany, where he died in late 1940, in unexplained circumstances.
Bet my Dad would have been there, he would have been 17 and probably some of his heroes playing. Would so loved for him to have seen this. Great clip deedub
It seems unlikely that it'll ever be broken. 13 goals in a World Cup is insane. Didn't realise that he was Moroccan.
