The Football Association's renewed plea for England players to be allowed to have embroidered poppies on their shirts on Saturday has been rejected by Fifa. The FA had made a special request to global football's governing body for permission for the poppies to support Remembrance Day. The world body have now issued a "final statement" rejecting the plea. A letter from Fifa to the FA sent on Tuesday said: "We regret to inform you that accepting such initiatives would open the door to similar initiatives from all over the world, jeopardising the neutrality of football. "Therefore, we confirm herewith that the suggested embroidery on the match shirt cannot be authorised http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12016/7299203/Fifa-rejects-FA-poppy-plea Is this the correct decision? What would be an alternative? Or is it just F Off...FIFA
FIFA= ****ing Ignorant Fat Arseholes. If Blatter could make £2 out of it he would sell his granny the fat useless, corrupt twat. I hope he gets rabies & end up destitute. He's just a ****. Honestly, would anybody miss him? The only thing that **** cares about is money, so take his ****ing roubles off him & stuff them down his fat neck. Personally I loathe the sad ****. Does that explain my feelings Comm?
Yep mate, Maybe the England squad should just wear them and accept any punishment FIFA dare to dish out.
Aye but they would probably ban us from all international tounorments for 65 years or something equally lenient.
QPR in peace,it's a ****ing disgrace and a snub to all the lads who died just so we could have a democracy. These half-wits haven't got a clue,i think every ****ing country playing should be forced to wear them on their shirts, and that includes Germany!
FIFA have had this rule in place ever since they existed and it applies to all nations. So if other nations aren ot allowed to do it, why should we be ant different...This rule will not stop me, or anyone else I would imagine, from wearing a poppy with pride.
I dont get the neutrality agument at all, the poppy is about remembering and we all will remember in our own way. I dont just remember British dead, I remember all dead, injured and basacly people who put their lives on the line and those who lost them. To me its about taking a few minutes to remeber people are still putting their lives on the line, far bigger than one country, one set of fallen dead, football and stupid FIFA political stances. They wonder why people are slowly falling out of love with football and should remember that group of soldiers who had a game in the middle of a war.
Exactly. When was the last time they stopped teams from wearing a black arm band or observing a minuteâs silence.
I actually wonder how many of the oldest fat twhats of FIFA were anywhere near the conflicts of WW2, or even taught History at school for that matter? The fact that as mentioned previously, football brought the Garman and Brits together in a brief spell of peace during WW1. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-410741/Historic-letter-telling-WW1-football-match-found.html recalls the event for anyone interested. Enough FIFA.......... you had very little credability and now you have NONE !! England,.... wear your poppy shirt with pride,...... Europe is doomed,..... long live Great Britain...... and all who sail in her.
**** fifa...wear the poppy with pride anyway...what could they do?fine us? so what...ban us from tournaments? so what, they would be the losers!
I would feel immensely proud if John Terry just said **** you Blatter & FIFA and got the team to wear them anyway. Terry isn't everyone's cup of tea but he is very patriotic and he would go up in my estimations with this action. ****ing Swiss ****s bottled the War anyway while our lads gave their lives so they could prosper and Blatter is a greedy self centred bastard who cares only for the money and power of his position.
I would love to see that, but now Fifa have told the ref, if England have poppies on their shirts then he is to abandon the game. Fu**ing arseholes.
I'd play with them on and risk getting banned from a tourament. Our service men and women mean a lot more than some stupid tourament which is corrupt anyway (see Lord Triesman http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/wo...n-Russia-bid-bribe-referees-South-Africa.html).
Thing is though the Poppy is neither a religious, political or a personal symbol. Therefore it is not covered by any FIFA rule. It just seems fitting to me that one of the most corrupt organisations in the world. Full of fat, greedy ****s lining their own bulging pockets should feel uncomfortable about a symbol which stands for all that is good in the world. I despise FIFA. We should let them ban us. Any rite minded country in the world would back us against Blatter, Platini and co. And if they don't, **** them too. I have lost very good friends in recent troubles and I beg England to do the right thing. WEAR YOUR POPPY'S WITH PRIDE.
As far as im aware the issue is they cant have poppies embroidered on the shirt like in the league. Nowt stopping them wearin an armband with a poppy on. I think its been blown out of proportion. And the same rule applies to everyone. Uk isnt a special case.
However, rules are there for a reason, to stop making football a cause, polictics, relihion or commercial and yes thats fine. But all rules need to be applied with common sense, surely thats a proper grown up world. Is it been blown up out of all proportion, maybe best asking a war widow.
This debate seems to have stirred things up everywhere.. David Cameron has condemned the ban on England's players wearing poppies on their kit as "outrageous" The Prime Minister called for Fifa to reverse the "absurd" decision that is stopping the team having the remembrance symbol embroidered on their shirts for this Saturday's friendly against Spain at Wembley. He stepped in after it emerged that Fifa officials turned down the special request, made by the Football Association, claiming it would "open the door to similar initiatives" across the world. Mr Cameron said: "This seems outrageous. The idea that wearing a poppy to remember those who have given their lives for our freedom is a political act is absurd. "This seems outrageous. Prime Minister David Cameron Quotes of the week "Wearing a poppy is an act of huge respect and national pride. I hope Fifa will reconsider http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12016/7299700/PM-condemns-England-poppy-ban
This! FIFA is not anti poppy, they just know if they allow this, they have to allow other similar things. It opens the floodgates.
The sun now it shines on the green fields of France There's a warm summer breeze, it makes the red poppies dance. And look how the sun shines from under the clouds There's no gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now. But here in this graveyard it's still no-man's-land. The countless white crosses stand mute in the sand, To man's blind indifference to his fellow man, To a whole generation that were butchered and damned. Now young Willie McBride I can't help but wonder why To those who lie here know why did they die? And did they believe when they answered the call did they really believe that this war would end wars. Well the sorrows, the suffering, the glory, the pain, the killing, and dying was all done in vain... For young Willie McBride it all happened again, and again, and again, and again, and again Did they beat the drum slowly, did they play the pipes lowly. Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down? And did the band play the Last Post and chorus, Did the pipes play the Flowers of the Forest. Some words from classic Irish WW1 song by Eric Bogle.**** the ****s ,wear the POPPY PROUDLY.
