I dunno, I think this is the pinnacle of his career and he'll be reluctant to let go and I think he's perfect for the FA because he's relatively vanilla. I can only see him giving up (or being sacked) if we fail at the group stages/first knock out (if it's a lesser team). Quarters or semis I think he stays on. I think winning the tournament (not ganna happen) would be the most likely scenario for him leaving, thats his best out as he'd then be in line for a top job, which he would fully deserve tbh.

I think Southgate is the most under valued coach in this country to be honest. He has done a brilliant job. I am not sure why he doesnt get the credit he has earned. I look at premier league clubs and wonder where he would go, without the fans being anti him from day 1. Villa maybe? When I look at the likes of Gerrard or Lampard then Southgate would be a massive step up. Does he get a crack at a Tottenham when the inevitable happens with Conte? I cant see it, but from a football perspective he would be a cracking fit. I just think premier league fans have an odd relationship with the national team, as do a lot of lower league fans, and he is tarred with a brush he hasnt warranted. I could see him getting a really good job in Europe to be honest where I suspect his stock is much higher.

Disagree personally. I think he suits the “yes man” mentality of the FA and international football. Not good enough when he has a vast amount to pick from instead of being limited by nationality. Just an opinion mind, doesn’t mean I’m right or wrong.

Don’t get me wrong, what he’s done with England has been superb. Got me back to actually watching and supporting the national team.

    I'm confused by this statement.
Surely as a club coach he will be limited to the squad of 25 whereas the national coach has relatively unlimited choice?

Not really. At a club he can sign any player of any nationality. With England his options are limited.

Yep. Southgate has been bloody good. He has though, IMO, frozen in the two biggest games of his career, against Croatia and Italy, when we basically didn't take part in the second half of the games until the equaliser came.

But overall excellent, especially his using and trusting young players, when we know other managers would not have done so to anything like the same extent, whatever they might say now.

I thought he could have done with an older hand just telling him to get some possession in those two games. Pity the world cup coming up is in a burning, alien hell hole.

Being a national team manager is completely different to being at a club, I think he has managed big moments off the field incredibly well and on the field he has helped make us competitive again. He has brought the fans and team closer than anyone has in recent times and he deserves a lot more credit than he gets

In a strange twist of fate, I can see Chelsea and Brighton swapping managers

I'm a big fan of what Potter has done in his career prior to Chelsea but he should be sacked.

I don't think he can blame it on the club, I think he's got no idea of what he wants to do and he's misusing many of the players. His team have scored less goals than anyone in the Premier League since November. That's embarrassing.

Then to make matters worse, his last 4 or 5 interviews have been about as bad as it can get. He's talked about possibly getting sacked, trying to get inspiration from Arsenals all or nothing series, about his mental health and about death threats from his clubs fans.

Morale is at an all time low and he's making it worse talking about the situation.

Sack him and hire Poch. Then get a proper striker in the summer.

Scattergun transfer recruitment. Owners don't have a clue about building a team. Like Potter and dislike Chelsea. Hope he leaves whilst he has a bit of sanity left.

I’d agree with this. I think he’ll be sacked soon, though.

This. They'll already be lining someone else up and will boot Potter as soon as the fan turn gets too hot for them....and it's well on its' way.Shambles.

What is amazing for me is that despite spending a small fortune on players a couple of good strikers/finishers did not come in. I wonder how much say Potter had in the transfers?

Everton also over the years have spent big..no strikers.

Whilst I am furious that we also don't also have striker options, we are not the only ones in that predicament.

Can you expand on that? I hear it bandied around an awful lot without any context. Are you saying he only has the job because he agrees with everything the FA says and doesn't rock the boat?

I'm guessing Potter had little to no say over transfers.

No I just think he’s easily led . Think the FA want someone easy to manipulate. The players he’s picked at times make me think that. As I sqy, just an opinion
