who said that. all I said was like king Kenny he looks like his head is gone. that nobody in their right mind puts a tired leggy no 6 on when trying to win a game.
To be fair, Milner, has his limitations, but he's pretty consistently decent. He was one of the few players that didn't look terrible last game. There's four or more midfielders to move before him. If we didn't have Milner this year we would be in even worse shape.
Milners actually been better at rb than cm. In cm he doesn’t have the ability to get his foot on the ball on the half turn and play it forward. So he’ll take a touch and pass it backwards at least at rb he’ll look forward into midfield and Salah. Will actually get close to the winger to try stop crosses as well. Something both TAA and Robbo seem incapable of doing
Imagine in a alternative reality, a reality where liverpool fans don't actually need to believe a clapped out geriatric is a good option for cover because their club actually bought quality midfielders and right backs. You know those 23-25 year old really good players rather than making do.
Only issue I have with Milner is that we often bring him on for his experience when trying to close out games but he plays like he's never stepped on a pitch before
If we had players better than Milner who were younger and more energetic, I'd be all for playing them. Ultimately, this is something we should be aiming for. The reality at this moment in time is that we just don't. I'm under no illusions, Milner is not going to get younger, and he needs updating, there are only so many games he can play (although he seems to avoid getting injured more than most). Until we have better, more energetic 23-year-olds, Milner is the man.
There is talk of Milner being kept on. His time on the pitch will reduce to a cameo role but his experience in and around the squad is invaluable. A fantastic example to any young player in how to look after yourself.
Really don't think he should be kept in the player side but if he's not stopping anyone else, there isn't really an issue
Birthweek this week so off work. Day one... pub lunch; 12oz steak & chips with a pint of Birra Moretti and triple chocolate fudge cake
But why not Birthmonth? Or Birthseason? Definitely not milking it enough by only celebrating for a week.
Highlights of our financial results for 2022 published today. Summary of the financial period: Covers the first full season post-pandemic Media revenue fell by £5m to £261m Matchday revenue rose by £83m to £86m Commercial revenue rose by £29m to £247m Administrative costs rose by £69m to £545m Overall revenue rose by £107m to £594m Profit before tax was £7.5m From winning the FA Cup and Carabao Cup for the eighth and ninth time respectively, this reporting period covers a season when Liverpool played in every club game possible, 63 matches in total. The reported media revenue however did reduce by £5m as a result of the Premier League extending the 2019-20 season with additional games played beyond the previous reporting period, as a result of the pandemic. The pandemic period also impacted the reported matchday revenue with a significant increase of £83m which is a result of going from no supporters in the previous season to full capacities in this reporting period. Commercial revenue increased by £29m, with strong growth in partnerships and the reopening of non-matchday operations with the global retail stores and stadium tours and museum centre. A total of eight new partnerships were signed throughout the reporting period, including Sonos, Kodansha, Vistaprint and Wasabi. One partnership was renewed, football simulation game partner EA SPORTS. In the retail operations, this period also saw another record-breaking kit sale with the Nike partnership bringing more global distribution opportunities. The club also added 51 new shop-in-shop locations and signed 19 new international licensing deals. Ecommerce also grew with mobile transactions increasing by over 60 per cent and shipping LFC products to over 190 countries. Digitally, the club gained over 21m new social media followers, taking the total followers to 127m across its social media channels. LFC is also one of four global football clubs to record over 5bn video views, and it has the largest viewing figures in world football on YouTube. The cost of football continued to rise throughout this period with administrative expenses increasing by £69m to £545m, which is due to the increase in salary costs and matchday overhead costs. In the past five years, annual operating costs for Anfield have increased by nearly 40 per cent. The profit before tax for this reporting period was £7.5m. LFC moved up four places to third position in the Deloitte Football Money League report for 2021-22. On the pitch, seven new players were signed, including Ibrahima Konate, Luis Diaz, Fabio Carvalho, Ben Doak and Bobby Clark. Twenty-two current player contracts were extended throughout this period with Jordan Henderson, Harvey Elliott, Andy Robertson, Alisson Becker, Stefan Bajcetic and Diogo Jota all signing long-term deals. Andy Hughes, LFC’s managing director, said: “Some of the numbers in these latest accounts look slightly skewed as a result of the previous reporting period being impacted by the global pandemic. However, the underlying strength of our financial position remains strong and we continue to operate a sustainable club which is our main objective from a financial perspective. “It was really great having supporters back at Anfield and returning to some sort of normality after a really challenging period for everyone. “For our men’s team to play the maximum 63 games in this reported season is an incredible achievement and winning more trophies is exactly what we continue to strive for. Our women’s team also had success - gaining promotion to the WSL was a great achievement and exactly where we need them to be competing. “The cost of running a football club does continue to rise. But we maintain our position of growing this club with significant investment with new and existing players signing contracts and the construction of the new Anfield Road Stand which we look forward to coming on stream in the summer. In the last five years we have invested over £250m in infrastructure and created world-class facilities for our players, staff and supporters. “What’s important now is to finish this season as strong as possible, both on and off the pitch, while we continue to manage costs and explore opportunities for growth in our commercial operations so we can continue to reinvest revenues in players and infrastructure.”
Well, it's pretty clear these guys want to make out it costs too much to expand and run a bigger stadium so next thing you'll hear is no more expansion. After that they are whinging about wages as well, so a quick reduction in squad numbers will come next to increase profits nicely. salah will have to go as well as all the frees and we will need journeymen on 20k a week to make up the squad. that's pretty much emwhat every club 3rd in the highest global revenue charts would do right?
Yeah, and after that, they will say maintaining a grass field is too expensive so they'll tarmac over the field. Then they will say maintaining a football team is too expensive, so they'll turn the stadium into a pinball museum. ... Yeah, we can speculate about all sorts of terrible things they might do, but until they do no need to live out a real-life "Minority Report". In reality, they have been expanding the stadium and have increased the wage bill, have spent on training facilities, have spent on support staff, I'm fully with you that the lack of spending on players has been concerning, and why that has been can be up for-debate. I'm not in panic mode yet, they've been spending the money elsewhere. Let's see what happens this summer, as I said above, if they don't spend after this disaster season then yes, I might believe we're being cut up and sent to Poundland piece by piece. I wouldn't be too surprised to see us spend a large sum over £100mil net this summer to play catch up. (how much over, who's to say). I clearly remember people saying after H&G "I hope we're never in debt and in danger of folding again, I'll be happy if we're just run well and not at a deficit". I think people are panicking and forgetting the past
I believe the pitch is to be re-laid with a more grass surface and less plastic hybrid mix. Our players should stop falling over so much then.
