Not sure how to feel about today's Windsor Agreement. On one hand I'm happy that Rishi has agreed to some sensible compromises and his party, on the whole, seem to be swallowing them. On the other hand, given how similar these compromises look to the ones Theresa May proposed, it's a travesty how much time and resource we've wasted to get here. The headbangers were so detached from reality that we had to endure Boris and all his BS before they realised that empty rhetoric would get us nowhere, because, shock horror, it's not 1870 and Westminster doesn't run the world anymore. To give one small example that I know well - medicines thankfully now, as of today, only need an MHRA (UK) license to be available in Northern Ireland. The 'oven ready' deal had left us in a position where my last company spent thousands of man-hours and millions of pounds working out how to legally supply medicines to N Ireland, and eventually re-working supply chains. Multiply that work across every drugs company and I dread to think of the total cost of that regulatory uncertainty across the last few years. All wasted resource that could have been put towards something more sensible. And now all redundant work because we've finally reached a sensible compromise. Ah well, at least there might be food in the supermarkets now. Hope you're all enjoying your bloody sovereignty and how easy it's been to control illegal migration since we did everything in our power to piss off the French.
It seems Sunak's deal has ensured that NI will continue to benefit from access to the Single Market. Excellent, well done Rishi. Now, can we have the same arrangement for the rest of the UK?

It is though. The only new stuff is promised but not there yet. They've promised a handful of tanks, none have arrived yet (a few of the Leopards have been rumoured to be there already). HIMARS have been around for ages and the US has thousands rusting away, same with M1 tanks (no sign of them arriving anytime soon). Air defence stuff is fairly modern but that's defensive. The offensive stuff isn't top end. Ukraine would then become the aggressor in this current conflict. It would be a massive escalation and one which might persuade Russia to feel justified in using more extreme measures. Exceedingly dangerous, and not something the UK should support, in my opinion.
Why? It's their land. Russia annexed it in 2014. It's no different to the Donbas. If Russia use nukes they'll be wiped off the face of the earth. Putin knows this, he's been threatening to nuke everyone for ages but knows he can't.
I genuinely struggle to see why people are so against helping Ukraine defend themselves against Russia.

I've heard Russians say much worse. And UK citzens about Europeans. Football fans about other football fans. I could go on... I don't agree that every Russian is evil. One of my best friends is Russian (sounds like a pathetic excuse but it's true), he left 15 years ago to avoid military service and is now a UK citizen. I do think that Russian culture is broken though, the ones against the war generally just don't want to go themselves instead of being against the murders. If you spent some time listening/watching some of their news shows you'd probably see why that Government official said that.

NI get the benefits of the SM without opening up their borders to 450 million people, and having to align laws and trade policies with an organisation in which they have no say. Even Starmer admits that would be nuts.
