One of these has trouble scoring with very little penetration and the other .... ... oops, didn't think that through
I can just imagine KLD's end of season speech if the club isn't promoted, "I'm so sorry I couldn't get it up, it's never happened to me before ... ... can you give me a little more time and I'll try again."
However you look at the situation, our recruitement team failed to sign a player in a crucial position, seems like a failure to me and the vast majority of fans What annoys me a lot is that we loads of time to sort this out, but could not do so
[QUOTE="Smug in Boots, post: 16534186, member: 1001969" I just find it strange that every Sunderland supporter in the world could clearly see what Speakman doesn't. If his ineptitude has cost KLD, and the club, promotion to the PL he should be sacked on the spot. It's totally unacceptable that he's wasted a golden opportunity for SAFC.[/QUOTE] Agreed.
Failing is not trying or not realising we needed someone ... ... it may just be that other clubs failed to release their player or that the player failed to convince his wife and family to uproot and move to the NE. 'Failure' is clear cut in business, not so clear when human beings are involved.
Exactly mate, the injunction period has lapsed so I can continue my stalking ... err, meant courtship.
honestly lads, i cannot believe this is STILL going on. the same couple of posters repeating it over and over despite the rest of the posters agreeing with them is just pointless, we ALL know we really needed another striker in. i watched martin and his main contribution was to keep running into patto so i fail to see why he would improve us (i mention him as he is the one that keeps being brought up)..i did try a quick look at 'free transfers' and there was nothing there that looked exciting, besides which i have no idea of what personal terms they would demand and unfortunately have no idea what (if any) restrictions the club have in place, although i do suspect there is plenty of thought put into wages/fees/promises etc. we were informed that a few players were watched or contacted by the club and some of them chose the best club for them others might just have been hear-say, whatever happened, happened and we will never know if 'any lump to hoof the ball up to' will have actually made much difference, this season was all about survival and as i keep saying, after the last many years we have a team that is together and enjoy playing...yes it needs some tweaking and some final additions but i honestly cannot see the club signing a player in march unless it was some desperate cry for help and we all know how those tend to turn out. as things stand, i believe we are missing evans just as much and if i am honest that is the position i wanted to see covered, the young lads are doing a great job but at times that little extra experience is vital but, as has been said, it is what it is and no amount of arguing will change it.
After all the progress we've made I never thought anyone would be advocating bringing in a big lump to smash the ball up to
Cheers for the mention, there’s an option missing however. Yes I believe it will cost us but I never expected us to make the playoffs when the season started so it’s just frustration from an opportunity point of view. I could still be completely wrong. I’m also generally over the moon with where we are now as a club and squad. We were, I believe, the only team in the championship to start the season with 2 proper centre forwards (there may have been another like…can’t remember) so we probably should have added a third then. It’s happened, nowt we can really do now so fingers crossed we add some centre forward for the next campaign.
Can you please tell Tony Mowbray that then as he has literally but Danny Barrth up there twice and it's had an impact too.
He'll never do that in a starting line up ... ... or send Patterson into their box in the first half.
No but he is using it as an option as we had no one else. Hence, the big lump up front as an option is effective thus making your initial point mute
I am not. Just use said about the big lump. We have had to resort to it with centre backs playing up there. Also Mowbray saying we lack a presence. He must be wrong then?
