look it was a great finish but they were let pass it into the box in a great position with no tackle. he wasn't kept outside the box. the shooting position was actually quite close to goal compared to where it should have been
Sometimes you have to accept that others can do things quite well occasionally and it isn't always that we're rubbish.
I'm just says that will be klopp's criticism of what happened. They were not challenged outside the box. they recycled once from out to in and were not forced back, the Gomez was not very close second time. thats was goal 2 and 3. utter rot. but klopp still commented on goal 1 specifically.
This is probably the most annoying aspect of the moaning aftermath from a bad result; 'literally everything is our fault and we're ****ter than ****'. Sometimes, it just doesn't go your way and it's not against the law to actually praise the opposition. The first goal was definitely more of a 'they were good' than 'we were ****e' imo
and we did. they were very good. everyone said as much. Before the game we all, i think, said it was a massive ask to play this side. But when you leave a single player to mark 2 and line up 6 players where the ball is never going and one of the two nods in a free header it is ****. That was a gift of a goal. When viniticus Jnr is coming full steam behind you and you tap it back at your keeper you are just putting the pressure on him. I think kicking the ball wide wasn't even a good option for alisson. Just cos Alisson ****ed up... well I still think gomez should have known its a massive game and he has the fastest player going piling down on him so just hoof it out for a throw and get the team back in shape. We have the same fixation as arsenal on over playing from the back. we have in the past defended much better than this and could shut games down but this attitude is after coming in in the last 2 years imo. never clear it, play it no matter what.
ON this game: palace form is ok, lots of credible draws v utd, newcastle, brighton, brentford. that had a narrow loss to chelsea and got hockeyed by spurs. utd were 2-0 up when casimerio got sent off and they lost 2-1. So this can go one of two ways IMO. a) Battling draw. There's not many goals being scored by palace, its a major issue for them lately but they don't concede. So if we don't fire we could se staring at a 0-0 here. b) a routine win for us as we get one goal and then cna hit them on break. (see this optimism, no talk of the obvious third option which is a stinking loss) thier line up looks a 451 but can be quite effective on the break which is my main worry Guaita Clyne Ahnderson Guehi Mtichell Sambi Doucoure Olise Aye Schlupp Mateta Eze is also back in so might play. Edouard might play. I genuinely think that first goal is vital in this game. if we get that first chance and take it then we can open them up a bit but if they can hold for 25mins we are in trouble.
actually the criticism was he should have been pushed down the line rather than cutting in onto his right foot .
well that can be one part of it also but they did recycle the ball out and went back in and we have been carved like this on the RB/RCB channel numerous times as well. once it goes out there should be no gap to get back in.
He was right to criticise it. Vinicius should not have been allowed to come inside like that, there were three defenders lined up watching and Gomez tried to block the shot with the wrong foot, a split second earlier and he blocks that shot.
I agree that the first goal is vital but we are very open to the counter attack and everyone knows this. There is something fundamentally wrong with the shape of the team when they lose the ball going forward, there were several examples of this against Real. To see an old timer like Modric galloping through the middle of the pitch unopposed was terrible and this happens far to often
the fundamental issue is simple. the first ball is the tirgger and we try to run at it and block it. If we fail we are wide open. Frankly when salah won't close his man down (often you'll fnd him shutting a lane off but conserving energy) so there's an outball all the time. Theres no front 3 press after 20mins. then once the ball goes to CM zone we all want to run at that and open gaps. But in the end modric was able to run as we were already down and gambling forward. we lost shape etc. (its also easier run 5 yard forward in a half effort then stop and watch your team mates scramble.) The issue for me is we simply cannot get tight enough in the press as a unit for very long but we still persist trying to.
I hope he cleans him out. SImple as, first 50/50 sort the whole thing out. you know refs like that sort of thing now.
