It makes sense. If we were to leave it a few games to be sure, it would then definitely be too late for us to be saved, so would likely have to accept relegation at that point. Last chance saloon, more of the same please!
I said after the Wolves debacle that if we get rid of the fraud right now we have a decent chance of staying up. The Chelsea result and performance further fuels that belief. Paul and Sulemana are a real handful up front and now Stu is fit we have plenty of forward thinking midfield options. And KWP is back. And Lavia has built his fitness and form back up. Let's ****ing go!
Think we didn’t have many other options tbh and this gives a sense of stability at least. Gives Selles a chance to show if he’s ready for the role longer term and it’s not his fault if we go down. Welcome Mr Permanent Interim Manager.
"Still need a striker" ...Onuachu has only started twice and apparently had a good game against Chelsea. Needs a goal soonish but give the man time!
Isn’t Henry Winter meant to be one of the better journalists as well? Shows how much attention is paid to us
For some reason this doesn't feel like a gamble at all. It feels right. We've got Sellés, Rubén Sellés, I just don't think you understand....
"Southampton manager Ruben Selles on the football coaches he has modelled himself on: "I grew up in Valencia. Rafael Benitez has always been a reference. "I put my team at the top with a very clear idea, very organised. Rafa was the first one to open something. At university I watched him in training. "Pep [Guardiola] changed the game some years ago. Diego Simeone showed a different way to do it. Graham [Potter] showed you can be very flexible in what you do, with three, four or five systems for every game. Jurgen [Klopp] with gegen-pressing. Ralph Hasenhuttl with a high pressure, all-in mentality. That mix is in my head and I think I have a way to put some of those things together." Sounds great to me
Delighted with this news, hopefully R/S will adapt the formation and tactics to the players we have, RH style was very exciting but the players couldn’t keep up that level of pressing up for more than 50-60 minutes hence all the leads we threw away. For our squad I think we need to keep things very simple with a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-4-2 as we need more goals from our attacking midfielders because we don’t have a Kane or Haarland up front
Seems like really clever timing, on the announcement of the Selles appointment. This will give him, the players and the fans a massive boost, just 24 hrs before the biggest match of our season. They've probably had an amazing week of training, following Jones going and that great Chelsea win - this will be the icing and cherry on the cake, right before Leeds. Had we done it earlier in the week, the shine may have come off slightly by the weekend. Likewise, had we waited until next week, we would have missed the boost into cheat mode before this massive 6 pointer! Let's hope it works. COYR!
This particular tweet seems to have been deleted, so Henry Winter may have received more accurate information about Big Paul.
