Interesting. I had wondered whether he'd leave in the summer but I'm happy to have him stay and a 1 year contract seems perfect.

Not sure where it leaves Matete, unless we're going to loan Ba out to get a season of football under his belt next year.

Must have missed Gordon’s post . Thanks for putting the video on.
Really think that if in future I feel “ I can’t do that “ I’ll think of her and at least have a go at it

One of the pianists says...."how did she learn it....how did she study it"?
    Really is inspirational.

Just been catching up on the woman in Syria Shamima Begum. It would appear her legal fees have amounted to over £5m.

I read Sue Reid's article about this woman which paints a very poor image of Begum, the PR behind her and her support for Isis as a school girl before leaving.

If I had to judge, I would say as she was born in Britain, she should be tried for her terrorist related crimes in the UK.

Also what rarely gets mentioned, is that 3 of her babies died? If that had happened in the UK social services and the police would have been all over it. If she does end up back in the UK she needs to be investigated as a potential baby killer!

George Orwell’s chilling prediction has come true – it’s time to make a stand
The censorship of books, statues and history is an attempt to eradicate the past and enforce a single point of view
    From The Telegraph yesterday . . . .

John Hurt in the film adaptation of George Orwell's dystopian novel, 1984

What is it about the past that some young people find unbearable ? After all, no one is expecting them to live through it. Indeed, some of us who did find the present infinitely worse. The vandalism of Roald Dahl’s writings for children (and that's what it is) by “sensitivity readers” (idiots) to make them “suitable” has brought the wickedness of rewriting, or eliminating, the past and evidence of it to the forefront of our discourse. It would also have Dahl (with whom I once spent an evening - shrinking violet he was not) turning in his grave. Sadly, it goes far beyond children’s books, and indeed books.

There's more to this article, but it needs a subscription which I'm not prepared to commit to, and it still says enough to show what some stupid people are made of :emoticon-0148-yes:

For future reference, this is a website you might find very handy for skipping past paywalls: https://12ft.io/

As for the story itself, I think the re-writing of cultural history is disgraceful. To leave it actually provides better education in how far we've come forward in tolerance (presuming that's the general issue).

I'm not sure it's new to younger people though, but it's becoming more prevalent in culture. History has been re-written for as long as man's existed as an example. Our education system doesn't (or never used to) provide a lot of rounded discussion about the history of the empire for example, the stuff we were ashamed of was hidden out of sight. It's the same with all historical figures of course.

This cultural censorship isn't much different, It's just more visible.

The idea of censorship is horrifying - but if it was tried at state level, at least we can vote governments out. What I find more abhorrent is that we have small groups ( in this case just those of a publishing company) who are few, anonymous and unelected trying to force their choices on us all without reference to the majority feelings

Good news is that they now, under pressure, are to print the original alongside the woke text so people have a choice. Victory for reason mate.
