Felipe Drugovich chosen as Lance Stroll’s initial stand-in for Bahrain pre-season test, and Formula 2 champion Drugovich gets the first drive of the AM23 on Thursday morning, handing the car over to 2 time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso in the afternoon.
That seems mad to put a complete rookie in their test car before any of their proper drivers! If he bins it badly then they have no test data!
He will be doing some very careful installation runs no doubt that morning! “Systems checks Felipe, systems checks!”
it's the classic daddy's boy team error. mr stroll has a massive blind spot for his spoiled brat and he would rather alonso get no more advantage over his little boy than he has to. any team worth their salt would have binned lance stoll years ago, but if you has Fernando alonso surely you would park stroll on his arse and get 3 solid days out of alosno and all the learning his experience can generate about this car. these 3 days might dictate a huge amount for the car over the next 3 months. I don't know how much running in the race the week after will. 3 days of getting the car tuned and finding the issues with a very experience man compared to little a baby trundle round. I think it's nuts.
It's being reported that Lance has broken both wrists! Sounds like 1 wrist was pinned. No one seems to know when the accident happened. When he will be able to drive again is anyone's guess
The team are being very secretive about it, but it's the only reason I can think of to be giving Drugovich testing time. He's doing at least one race
Oh it should be months. You cannot drive like that, any snap of the wheel and he's redone. Has to be able to get out of car like grosjean as well. 3 months??
I don’t see it, he needs to rebuild his reputation, getting blown away by Alonso over a couple of races could remove any final chance he has to get back on the grid. I see Vettel has been mentioned, other than more money, I don’t see the attraction for Seb and you’d have to think he’s not been keeping himself race fit.
He does, but nor if he going to do that in a car at or close to the back of the grid. He needs to prove himself, not build his career from the bottom again. Whatever excuses can be made, Danny beat Ocon, Alonso didn't last season. Danny should be prepared to quickly prove himself worthy of an F1 drive, not hide against a rookie. If he fails, he has his answer and can move onto another series. I don't think he would fail, I believe Mclaren was simply the wrong drive for him.
Felipe Drugovich to race i Bahrain if Lance Stroll is unfit. I`m just hoping Stroll doesn`t make it as I think young Felipie did quite a good job in testing. If he could get in the points it would give Stroll senior something to think about, surely.
