FFS - I don't say 'Im scared' and this is what happens. Ah well - we expected to lose, but I didn't expect us to capitulate so badly in the second half. As bad as we were in the 2nd half, we were also terribly unlucky. Another game where all the fine margins went against us - we literally should have had a penalty at 2-2, then Real go and score. Then they score another via a deflection. You can't write it. .. Let's just crawl to the end of the season - and no excuses not to bring in several top quality players.
the collapse in the second half is as ridiculous as it is unacceptable. Losing that half 3-0 when its all in the balance at 2-2? something is not right but this is not an isolated incident. More symptomatic of the whole season rather than the last 2 matches. is he losing the dressing room? may be but he deserves the chance to put it right.
I haven’t seen it but few of mates (who are chelsea United and arsenal fans) said the push on Nunez was the one that prob should have been a pen. There were two other claims (tackle in first half and handball) that were never pens though
The frustrating thing is that yesterday's collapse did not come as a surprise. We've seen it often this season, except this time, like against Napoli, we were against a world class side that could fully exploit it.
The Nunez push incident was quite a small push but just enough to push him too far forward to get good connection . Var would never overrule the refs decision , particularly in Europe , whichever way it went
Is Groundhog Day over yet? I can't remember the details of the film but didn't the main character have to keep reliving the same day over and over until he made everything better? It's the weirdest season ever. So many false dawns starting with the Charity Shield, last night's game being the latest. Time for a new dawn.
Well, having had time to consider last night a bit more, I think the following need to go Gomez Matip Ox Naby Bobby Millie I think Hendo and Thiago are only bit part now as well. Shift that lot and get in good replacements and we might be back. Even at our best we had about 13 good players, the rest were average. Look at what Real had on the bench last night. That is what we are up against. FSG need to invest big time, our rejects won’t bring in a lot of money
. Perhaps, but we can't replace everyone in one window. This isn't a one summer and then we're back deal. One summer, we can perhaps challenged for top four and a cup again. Two summers we're a threat again. Three summers at least before we can challenge for a title again.
All these on the original list are not first team players anyway. Gomez was really out of his depth last night and had a hand in all 5 goals. The others can only sit on the bench. Fabinho has fallen well off his last season’s form. And the new young blood are off the very top quality. Desperately need Jude but will he choose us over the other top clubs? The worrying thing compared to other clubs like Arsenal Chelsea Newcastle is that we are unlikely to improve with the current squad as is.
Be fair to Trebs (and dare I say Diego too), they still showed up after the 5-0 massacre at OT last season, unlike several other fairweathers on the United board, one of whom very publicly hid under a stone for 6 months after it.
As FSG have never been capable of replacing 3 top players in one season, replacing those 6 will take 4-6 years minimum under them. And then another 4-6 years on top of that as Robbo, Virgil, Ally, Mo, Jota, Thiago, and Bobby join the 6 or so who need shifting already this summer. In other words, we need to replace 6 players each summer in the next two seasons under FSG. Yeah, not going to happen.
It has been said that the greatest attacking and midfield set ups last only about 3 years before they should be dismantled and renewed. Ours lasted 4 years or more before attempts were made at renewal. This means that many of the key players are growing old and off their peak together. Whether it’s been forced on Klopp or it was his choice to keep his favourites together as long as possible, no doubt he’s left it for too long before making significant changes to the team. I am not sure Gakpo and Darwin were solutions to our pressing problems.
I haven't watched it again, but I seem to remember he had both feet off the ground so it doesn't take much of a push to put you off if that's the case. So many of those sort of incidents go unchecked though.
