I'm in Gran Canaria for a few days (ooh look at him...b4 anyone else says it) so didn't watch the game. How poor were we? I thought Rotherham at the SoL were the worst team we've played. Young lads,so bound to have ups and downs that's for certain. As long as they learn and go again next game which will be tough.

Win as a team, lose as a team Individuals make mistakes but you lose because the team wasn't good enough.

Aye comments like that are ridiculous. Yes he made a mistake and had a poor game but to say he has no bottle when hes always looking to get on the ball n play forward is ridiculous. The boy would run through a brick wall for this club n thats the type of players we need.

As ive mentioned to a certain poster on here, who i now have on ingore, neil regains possession for us more than any other player - that shows he gets stuck in.

For me last night is a concern, players looked leggy n i thought the formation in 1st half was poor.

Pritchard is only.useful as a no10 so needs to play there to get the best of him. We needed to be braver n sharper on the ball and play through the lines more. Hopefully it was a 1 off n we bounce back on sat

Yeah if we get on the front foot early, which we havent been doing recently, we can get their fans to turn on them

I think they put 5 past us the last time we played there so you could say it’s a big improvement by our lads last night.

Looking for positives, if any scouts from other teams were watching last night, I think those of us worrying about losing some of our best players such as Neil or Clarke might feel a bit easier.

On a more serious note, I think Roberts has found his real home here and would be crazy to leave. He has had a troubled past at his other clubs but here it’s all going well for him. I think he will stay.

Also, give Rotherham credit, they deserved the win. When we get back up to the prem we will have some wins against the big 6 as we have done before. Footy is like that. Let them enjoy their win the same as we will when we beat City or Arsenal.
They certainly didn’t look tired. Maybe we should feed our lads pies before the game (or whatever Rotherham did to have their team so full of energy)

Too many players had a bad game, some worse than others, when your struggling to pick a man of the match then that speaks volumes. Personally I think we were due some poor form, its clear that some of the young lads are tiring and this is where we maybe lack the experience to grind out a result. Lets dig in at Coventry on Saturday and try not to let this blip become a slump, we then have a week in which to recover and maybe we can look to improve our home form. I think we have 7 home games remaining and they could be key to the play offs, only 2 look difficult on paper.

The biggest annoyance was that we failed to be solid and come away with at least a point. I think Norton Cat talked about how TM will have had a well thought-out plan for the game and it may have worked if we found some early fluency and rhythm.

The starting line up looked alright. Possibly too attacking and would have benefitted from Ba’s combative play.

Ultimately, too many players weren’t sharp enough physically and mentally. We’ve had hell of a lot of games and the injuries to key players caught up with us a bit.

if it works ok then the player is already on the front foot and can leave opposition midfield having to turn and catch up...but, the player does not have the luxury to suddenly take stock of what is around him, he needs to be fully aware of space and where he is going to head and i doubt neil is fully grasping that aspect.

one thing i have noticed is that he always seems to take a second to think, a couple of times i have noticed a high ball heading towards him and he stops, looks and then steps towards it and loses out...despite some obvious improvements he seems unable to stop this and imho it will be the one thing that holds him back

It’s all about opinions mate but I have to say that’s absolute bollox. Since Mowbray came in he has really improved. He’s a young kid still learning his trade yes he makes mistakes but “Heart of a pea”. Give over man

Dear me, that is a load of bollocks that mind. He has had a couple of indifferent games man. He's 21. He's been playing first team football for a year and a half. Almost everyone has seen that his tackling and interceptions have improved almost exponemtially.

You don't like him. But it's an old record, and repeating it ad infinitum won't make it correct.

And by the way, far better judges than anyone on here will disagree with you and back their judgement with cash. Quite possibly this summer, and then another scapegoat can be found for when we lose.

I'm amazed we are where we are. I was hoping for a decent middle eight finish back in August. Since then we have had 13 games from our main striker, about the same from the other and we are knocking on the door with a young team, albeit a touch tired and with new problems to solve, well surpassing all reasonable expectations.

I think he conceded his formation was wrong in his interview mind. But he'll get it wrong, so will the players sometimes.

Who knows, but we are better than I thought we'd be.

    https://www.a-love-supreme.com/single-post/gelhardt-on-first-safc-goal

This is what Joe Gelhardt had to say after scoring his first goal for Sunderland, in our disappointing defeat to Rotherham last night.

    POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES

“I think we had a slow start as a team but we grew into the game. Especially in the second half, we had a few chances and we could have scored. But that’s football and sometimes it doesn’t go your way. I think it’s a performance that we can build on for the weekend, take the positives out of it, learn from the negatives and hopefully go and grab three points on Saturday.”

    FIRST GOAL

“It was a matter of time! I’ve had a lot of chances and I probably could have scored three or four by now if I was more clinical. But I’m happy to get off the mark now. Hopefully it’s the first of many for the remainder of the season. Every game I’m trying to score goals to help the team so hopefully this kicks me on now.”

    NOT OUR NIGHT

“Especially in the second half, we were knocking it about (with confidence). I think we were the better team for a majority of the game other than the first half. We know how we want to play, we’re all confident players. As I said, on another day we come away with the three points so it just wasn’t our night tonight.”

    ONTO SATURDAY

“That’s the thing with this league, the games come thick and fast so we’ve got to recover and get ready for that game on Saturday. We can’t dwell on this too much, it’s going to sting now of course - it’s not nice losing any game of football. But in four days time we’ve got another chance to put it right, so we’ll look forward to that.”

    BEDDING IN

“Well first and foremost the lads have made me feel very welcome. It was tough because I’ve never really trained much to learn this style of play, but the manager sort of gives you freedom which is ideal for an attacking player. I’m still getting used to how all the lads play, and where I can make my movements to how they play and our chemistry. We’re still building on it but I feel like it’s getting better. I’m looking forward to the rest of the games.”

    FANS

“It surprises me because of how many they bring (supporters) but I know how good the fans are anyway. I just want to thank them for coming down tonight and giving us the support. I’m sorry for not getting the result but on another day we get the three points for them and they’re happy on the way home. They pushed us on in the game and I think they were our 12th man again.”
