That game was made for Evans as well, definitely miss him in midfield, Neil had an absolute shocker tonight.
We miss this and we miss that. RS is crucial for us imho. Geldhart is not the answer but he was brought in to play alongside RS so it's not his fault. I'm thinking outside the box here but we need some sort of target man. Alese? Even O Nien! Geldhart is a sort of ghost 9. Ok shoot me down everyone.
Yup. Life and times of a football club. There will be plenty queuing up to blame Speakmann etc, but not sur how you are supposed to replace influential players at a few days notice.
Very generous take there. He gets paid the big bucks to make those calls. He said there were options but felt he didn't want to compromise. That's a call he made. We are doing ok, but I will always think not having an option will haunt us. I think it's cost us points already TBH.
People think its like Football Manager and you can just sign a player with a click of your finger. Seeing exactly the same thing with one of the non-league clubs I have links to. "We need a centre forward, why haven't you signed one?". Even at that level where there's no transfer window, you can't just bring in a player at a moment's notice.
I don't think this was the issue here. Speakman has said there were options but he felt they were not worth taking. For a short term loan option, I think that's his biggest mistake in an otherwise excellent recruitment drive.
It’s embarrassing mate, I don’t have anyone on ignore I just see who’s put a reply on and just skip over it, you know it’s not worth reading.
Which is essentially the remit he has been given by the owner. His job to recruit and as much as people love to bitch and moan about him, he's doing an excellent job. Everyone focuses on his "dropping a clanger and not buying a striker" as if he could be arsed to pop down to Tesco and buy a Ross Stewart replacement off the shelf for 500k The same people would be on here bitching and moaning if we'd signed Chris Martin "just to have a presence up front" It is what it is and we have to crack on
Would you have been happy to see Chris Martin or Kyle Lafferty standing still in the 6 yard box waiting for Amad or Roberts to put the ball in to him? I know I wouldn't - it's totally against our style of play
I honestly would have taken Chris Martin for a bench option. I mean last week we had Ekwah as a striker against Bristol. Are you saying that's acceptable ?
I think there surely was some middle ground (between Ross Stewart and Chris Martin) but my assumption is that clubs were taking the piss re transfer or loan fees as everyone knew our situation. KS made a call not to go down to Stewart Donald-Will Grigg fiasco line and I'm glad he didn't. It ****s us in the short term, but will benefit us in the long term
I mean it literally is. Amad also plays better with one too. No coincidence his form has fell through the floor.
No, but that was for 10 mins at the end of the game. It's not how we play (pumping long balls up to the big target man) and I'm grateful for that. Very few of our goals have been scored by playing a long diag to Ross Stewart and him flicking it on for a runner in Quinn-Phillips style. In fact I'd love to see how many headed goals Stewart has scored as a % of his total goals - we don't use him like a traditional no.9 - I've always said his height is an added bonus to his overall play. I don't deny it gives us an out ball, but not all of that is about his height, it's about his ability to hold the ball up and drag defenders out of position. I don't think a static 34yo plodding striker gives you any of that
Rooch is being sarcastic, TC, 'cos of the constant whingeing about it from some . . . . who want us to ruin/abandon all principles/plans just to have a no.9 (any ****er, as long as he's tall, I think)
