I was thinking exactly the same. I looked at the table and first glance thought it’s narrowed down to a top three and then six fighting for the final three playoff places, but then you look at games in hand and there could easily only be a handful of points between nine different teams vying for play off spots
Pretty woeful performance overall but the highlights & goals will flatter, I still haven't given up hope of a play off spot and the games are way more entertaining under Wagner .
I disagree DD. I thought it was a pretty good performance overall. I know what you mean when you say the highlights and goals will flatter because we can't expect a worldie and a very clinical finish every game, but we could easily have had more goals (Idah, McLean) and we didn't look like conceding again except for the time when the ref ignored the foul on Nunez in front of his eyes.
Quite right, but the distinction is less so when the subject is plural. My wife is casting scepticism because I often point out the mistake when made on TV. Fewer would have been better but please can we avoid raking through that previous discussion again.
I agree. I thought we moved the ball quickly using a mix of long and short passing, had good movement up front and Idah grew into his role up front as the game went on. Núñez knows he's fighting for a place and he made the most of his chance but the whole team worked well together and hopefully this shows that Wagner's tactics are being fully absorbed.
What I mean by woeful is the multiple passes to ghosts Giannoulis being the main culprit & the inability to keep possession at 2-0 up killing the game , at 2-1 we let Birmingham back in & looked very nervous until Tzolis killed off the game with a brilliant individual goal. Both Tzolis & Nunez scoring their first Carrow Road League goals in such style was a major plus. Especially as Tzolis was deemed surplus under Smith & Nunez looked completely drained of confidence until Wagner came in. The new boss certainly seems to be getting the best from McLean, Sara, Dowell ,Hernandez & glimpses of promise from Idah . I personally believe they play better without Pukki but that could be because we are less predictable & space is opened up . Sara & McLean were both excellent again yesterday.
I thought Lungis' goal earlier in the season would be goal of the season, but no more. Two very good goals and a once in a lifetime worldie. The Mayor was very good, and I hope Idah gets a goal very soon which his all round play deserves.
I always think that goal difference is a reasonable indicator and ours is currently the fifth highest in the league. It's amazing that Blackburn are in fourth place with a negative goal difference. Similarly, under Wagner we've taken 13 points from 7 games, an average of 1.85 points per game compared to 36 points from 26 games under Smith with an average of 1.38 points per game. If we can maintain a similar ratio for the remaining 13 games we could finish with over 70 points, which could be hard for other teams to match.
Oh, please believe me, I don't want to get into anything like that, whether I'm right, wrong or whatever. It just reminded me of that poster, and I wondered if anyone remembered him, that's all.
Are there any other contenders for the goal of the season or should we just stop nomina I was going to mention that haha
