2-0 up and flying. Conceded to a very good finish and we absolutely collapsed... Embarrassing. So frustrating that every loose ball or ricochet went to them all night long. Oh, and the ref was a prick; I was saying as much when we were 2-0 up. He blew for every little niggle.
I prefer the term counter-attacking football when describing Liverpool. It sounds more elegant. It's not really that though, it's not that we're good at counter-attacking football, it's that we're bad at defending against it. We play a high line, and get stuck in a rut of endless passing around the enemy defence. We get everybody up the field and this makes us vulnerable to other teams that "win possession and kick it to the fast lads". When our possession is lower, it means we don't have the time to bunch up with a high line, we have some people back, we have a better shape. It worked for us for a few years, but everyone knows how to beat it now. Possession is our enemy...
Goal line clearance to almost make it 3-0. Totally different game then. Let's hope this hasn't dented confidence completely and we take the recent league form into the Palace game.
Well.... bets on Klopp gone by the end of the season? A game of six sixths - five of them belonging to Real. I said before the game I'd have taken a draw, and at 2-0 up I was thinking one more and we can shut up shop, but reality bites. Not going to go through the team slagging this and that off, because even Virgil is a shadow of himself nowadays, let alone Gomez and Fabhino, but suffice to say that Pope getting sent off on Saturday masked something deep and permanent now in that side - we can't defend anymore, including our midfielders. Of the back line, only Robbo seems to have the energy and vim he had three years ago, and while Batejic is a fine kid, the rest has just aged badly and quickly. Well, season over, so let's see if we can consolidate 8th place whilst FSG seek another £1bn in investment off our backs that we'll never ****ing see whilst Newcastle replace us in the top six. YNWA.
Speaking of sevenths and Klopp, Klopp is in his seventh year at Liverpool a time he usually implodes and walks out to start again at another club. Great at building teams, ****e at maintaining them.
Have to agree that he's unreliable. He was involved in 4 of the goals we conceded whether he's at fault or not. 1st goal, he let the shot go past him. 2nd goal, it was his pass back to alisson. 3rd, he let militao on his own for a free header. 4th he was the one who deflected the ball into the net. Simply not good enough.
Scanning through the comments, I can see the bitching about individuals as returned so I'm out of here... #cantsupportwhenwelosedontsupportwhenwewin
Meant 15 minute sections. Would basically have to win @ 12-13 of remaining games left to get fourth (top three is long gone), and as we have City, Arsenal, United, Spurs, Chelsea and Fulham still left to play again.... nah. Not just being negative and despondent, but I even said on Saturday that you can drive a bus through our defence nowadays, and Newcastle did several times with 10-men despite a lethergic looking Virgil back. We're looking better up top (we couldn't look worse than we did in January), but I can't think of one team in the Prem apart from a dire Everton and an unlucky 10-man Newcastle who still couldn't score against us atm. Can't even see top six, never mind top four, tbh.
FSG have shown great restraint keeping Klopp on. Any other club and he would have been out the door by October. I was half expecting the fans to turn on him too, fortunately they didn't, we truly have better fans than most clubs! . Have to applaud FSG for not following the usual knee jerk reaction. Come rain or shine, I don't think Klopp is going before the end of the season now. Klopp's the best manager we've had in decades and a real miracle worker. That said I am beginning to be a little miffed that we're not evolving. The strategy that worked several years ago has been found out, but Klopp sticks to it. I fully expect next season to improve and the season after that too. I don't think we will ever win another title with Klopp, he's too static in his thinking, but I think he will keep us in the top four for as long as he's with us (well, not this season obviously).
4th spot is between yous and Spurs. You got 2 games in hand, you win those and you're 1 point behind Spurs. Spurs aren't consistent and... well... they're Spurs. But let's go further... Spurs when they're in a fight with anyone over any spot in the league, they will fck it up. That is guaranteed. I'd love to be wrong and hope I am, but realistically that's what I expect will happen.
last season: The Goons were 8 points ahead of us going into the last 10 games this season: We got a champions league game next week
Oooffffttt fancy seeing you here Spurly You probably did them a favour, no way they're top of the league otherwise.
