But clubs in England don't do it because they're massively disjointed. Managers seem to get on average just over a year but the style of football these managers play can be wholly different. That makes recruitment 10x harder. One of the things I admired about Grant was how he had a clear vision of what he wanted from each position and it made recruitment straightforward. It's also the reason we managed to outperform the budget in his last 2 years. Look at last summer, we wanted to play an expansive style where we play out from the back. Yet we signed a centre half, who cannot play out from the back. That's a basic but pretty major **** up that is unforgivable. It's not high-level stuff either, you can watch Fig for 1 game and know he's not a ball-playing centre-back. But these mistakes add up and become pretty costly. I think players like Twine were way too ambitious, signing Bernard permanently would have been ideal. He improved an awful lot last season and we'd have been able to get him for a six-figure fee. He's an improvement on Fig yet would work out cheaper (even when including the fee) and I think it's a solid bet that his value would have increased this season too.
We signed Oscar, Seri, Benji, Ozan, Christie, Allahyar, Woods, Figueredo, Sinik. Baxter and Pelkas are loans. Figs isn't a particularly big earner and knows his role will be similar to forest in that he's a squad player. Retained Greaves and Fleming. Lost KLP, Honeyman, Eaves, Magennis, Smallwood, Moncur. Lo tut, Covil are youth signings. Salah and Simons were loan punts with options so we've taken Simons. In terms of key business we lost KLP - but got decent money and George made his decision to play in London for similar money as we offered. Way I see it is we're probably KLP and George weaker, but despite not replacing Smallwood with a more capable ratter, we're far, far stronger in terms of overall personnel now. Such a 'naive' policy though... I'm sure some will cling like a condom on a spent cock to the idea it was a disaster, and they know better 'cos they did better on their most recent fifa or fm save but in the real world it looks like we've upped the budget by £10m + and got to the middle of the division over scraping survival and benefitting from points deductions making it far less squeaky than would have been last year. So Oh, the incompetence.. Surely we should be smashing everyone by now? I mean we've had 5 months, 3 managers, crippling injury list. Why aren't we invincible by now - we have our 'biggest' players on half the salaries of other 'top' players now instead of 10k a week max so why the **** not? N4 demands it! Forward! Boo! Mediocrity on the pitch is more than **** support deserves.. Blah.. Blah... .
Agree with most of this, the window was pretty poor and a very scattergun approach where we seemed to target players not roles. When a DM became unavailable we didn't target the next on a list of DMs we brought in someone completely different. When we couldn't get Twine we didn't look for another goalscoring midfielder in a similar mould. It was all pretty poor, but hopefully they've learned from it.
SCOTT Twine. Fee: 2.9m Current value: 2.5m (-400k) Championship 22/23 played: 6 Goals:1 Minutes played : 59 Jesus ****ing christ. We missed out on the new ****ing Pele... Now just imagine your derision if we'd have signed that from Turkiye. Fu%cking w*nkers.
Thinking Woods was a viable alternative when missing out on a DM was a terrible decision. He's another one, you need to watch 1 game to know he doesn't have the athleticism any more. It's simple stuff, I honestly think we panicked and thought we'd be able to attract a really high-quality player easily. I think we've got more than a bit lucky in the DM position with Simons blossoming though. It was a complete panic signing mind. I think the list of targets is the toughest part of recruitment. If you're looking to sign 10 players, general consensus is that you need 10 options. Considering you need to be watching these players 20 times, that's an awful lot of football to watch, especially as these targets are likely to be in several different countries. To combat this, I think you're best off concentrating on 1/2 foreign leagues and putting all the scouting resources into it and making sure you've got a really good network in these leagues. Brentford have done it really well in Scandinavia and Burnley are having success in Belgium.
Yep agree completely. We panicked a lot in the summer and managed to fluke one with Simons; Oscar as we agreed earlier looks the pick of the bunch although even his output is waning this half the season so I question what his value will actually end up looking like, and Seri has been a great signing but with little sell-on value. I look at the fees on Sinik, Ally and Tufan and question if we'd get even half back as a collective. Ally I really like the look of but he just doesn't seem to have the output to get anyone too excited. Hope I'm wrong on that one though. That's a lot of money spent with little in return, and we can't afford a similar output this summer as we don't have a KLP to sell to boost the coffers - not sure we'd get half his fee for Greaves for instance.
We don't need to sell Greaves and he's not looking to leave. So much of this bullshit is in your and sharks imaginational love in. Who cares if were spunking cash on someone other than your dogs namesake. Youre the one who's saying ffp and budgets aren't an issue... ... Whilst notably not paying the bills. It's in your head. It's not really what's happening. As my child would say - NOOB'S.
But we weren't looking for a 'viable DM' were we? We were looking for deep ball players and not reincarnations of the old style cropper-ratters which Smallwood, Honeyman and their anti-football, anti media coach McCunt was espousing at the time. We absolutely need a hard bastard with ability who can cover and play next to Seri or Tufan types in that middle 2. In the last few games it should be noted that Tufan has got around the pitch a lot more than Woods has. Let's drop him deep to his natural position and see what he does with creative players in front. FFS. But yeah. We need an enforcer in summer.
What a deeply unpleasant post. We’ve seen the true character of a few posters emerge in the last 24 hours, here is the latest.
Shark and I have a calmly civilised conversation and then someone screaming angrily into the ether. Rather unpleasant and sad.
Can't one of you put the other on ignore, these daft spats are mind-numbingly tedious for other posters?
There's only one winner in the "Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the most supercilious of them all ?" stakes. Arrogance personified !
Who's this in reference to? I was talking to Shark, neither of us was talking to Orange who I think we both have on ignore.
Anyone know who we are playing tonight? Im guessing Man Utd as they are not playing in Europe this week and someone I know that just passed the team bus on the motorway heading that way. I suppose it could be Everton or a Man City/Liverpool B team.
