If I'm being honest, I'm not expecting this to change the outcome of our season. As you and others have said, the win has preventing us being cut right off from the rest. So that's great. As was so much else about us today. But I still believe we're getting relegated. If we can beat Leeds next week (and we haven't won successive PL games since last February!), maybe I might then be able to muster up some sort of hope.
I would have felt more comfortable if he had first team management experience, but after today I want to see what he can do. If Ralph thought he was ready, then I suspect he’s ready. Maybe the squad needs someone without baggage?
Yeah I think that Wolves game will be pivotal, and if the talk that we were sounding out managers before that game anyway then I have no idea why we didn’t sack Jones after the Brentford game. Still we have kept ourselves in it and are a point closer to safety than we were at 3pm
If it had stopped on 65 mins and we had won, today and our future wouldn't have happened. We'd still be managed by a PE teacher.
We're certainly heavily favoured to get relegated. After Leeds/Leicester our schedule is brutally difficult, and we still need to get at least 19 points from 15, I'd imagine. It's possible, though, and possible is better than where we'd be if even one of Chelsea's chances went in.
The last time Saints won at Stamford Bridge to complete a double over Chelsea was on the 26th March 1988, which also marked the first team debut for 17 year old Alan Shearer.
Towards the end of the season it's almost better playing teams who have Euro commitments (ie: Chelsea today), or are safely mid-table, than playing those down the bottom fighting for their lives. Every game is winnable.
This result gives everyone belief we can stay up. At the end I think there was genuine belief from the players and the fans that we can stay up.
