Plus Frank lost five of his first six, or something along those lines, which is a situation we can’t repeat.
Seems good. I assume we appointed him as coach for a reason. But even if he is the next Pep, bringing him in now, when he has no PL experience, no relegation battle experience seems mad to me. I guess the best I can say is it will be an interesting experiment. But would I rather have Dyche, (who was available and many fans were calling for) or Selles? We will see at the end of the season if the gamble pays off. Maybe Selles is a footballing genius. But maybe he’s the next Wotte/Poortvliet. All I know is - this whole situation was very avoidable.
See, I disagree there. Sometimes people are lower on the so called ladder not because they are incompetent, but maybe opportunities, circumstances or just plain luck. Looking at my industry, there may be some below me that are more qualified and given time may make the step, but experience is key here - In IT for example, a fresh graduate thinks they know it all and can be hung ho with things, where an older experienced head that has had all weekenders due to this approach may be more pragmatic. What I am trying to say is RS has the experience as a no 2, so may be able to make the transition.
True but the equivalent In this analogy would be throwing said graduate in at a weekend to fix a catastrophic IT system error, with zero help and no access to the software manuals. This is the sort of job that needs your experienced software engineer that has been on the job for many years
Current job, I was asked what our policy was (on something fairly important) on my third day. I was not remotely in a position of authority at the time. (Just wing it and see what happens, Ruben, been here nine years now)
Using your analogy, he has 15 years of on the job experience rather than being a recent graduate. I think it's maybe 2 years too early for him, and he would probably flourish with a confident set of players, but you never know how someone will step up without putting a step in front of them.
Even better news! https://insidefutbol.com/2023/02/17...ere-manager-rules-out-southampton-job/595449/
I find it difficult to look past the fact that Selles was brought in to improve aspects of the football we play in the summer and over that time we’ve gone from awful to even worse. Now I’m sure there’s many reasons for that and definitely not laying all that on Selles, but equally, nothing he has done or been involved with has been successful in terms of how we play or the results we’ve been getting. Also don’t see how the position and situation we are in is a good place for a rookie to succeed, for him or for us.
