    and ........you're wrong.

He never had a distinguished youth career. He only signed for the club in 97 on a pre-contract and didn't make his reserves debut till 98.

Nah here for 7 years before Ashley, classic Shola period was up front with Shearer in the Robson times.

All Haidara ever did was get his leg knackered by a psychopath.

I didn’t say he wasn’t here before Ashley. Shoal’s characteristics epitomised Ashley’s tenure

Also, Haidara is a running joke on this forum for me

Yeah, it's normally in abundance at about 14,15,16 and would be represented at youth level. I suggest it's you that needs to learn what it means <laugh>

Potential can be shown at any age.
Shola had the potential but as he was lazy he never realised that potential.

I do realise the Haidara joke.

But if you want players that epitomise the Ashley regime, then Barton, Colo, Saylor, Carroll , Riviere and Sissoko are more appropriate. Shola was always his own mystery.

How do their characteristics epitomise Ashley’s tenure?

Barton was a fighter - Ashley gave up after the first negative incident
Colo was all show- Ashley his away
Saylor showed enthusiasm and was a fan - Ashley showed no enthusiasm for the club and wasn’t a fan
Carroll - is the same as Shola in my opinion
Rivière was always **** and didn’t have any potential to succeed. Ashley has that potential - he just couldn’t be arsed to realise it’s.
Sissioko - cost little and showed glimpses of quality.

Shola was his own mystery - Ashley was his own mystery. He could have easily turned us in to what Tottenham are (were) but he chose the easy option just like Shola

    One by one:

Barton - loud mouth thug who brought non stop embarrassment on the club
Colo - one decent season then played for far too long when he should have long since been replaced.
Saylor - constantly injured and making a fortune from it.
Riviere - a classic example of how bad the scouting was under Ashley.
Carroll - our best player and on fire in Jan 10, so Ashley gets pound signs in his eyes and sells him for an extortionate fee that he never reinvests. The re signing 10 years later was typical of the low cost recruitment of average players.
Sissoko - overrated and arrogant, a player who consistently underachieved, we were all overjoyed when he was sold.

So Ashley reign summed up in a mix of players - awful attitudes, inept recruitment, massive egos, bargain basement signings and players staying far too long.

You were also comparing the players directly to Ashley, and I'm not sure comparisons of professional athletes to wobbling great mound of blubber and flab are appropriate <laugh>
