Sure, we could appoint BFS or Bruce, or someone of that sort. But there's no one realistically out there now Marsch is off the table I'd want ahead of Selles TBH.
Maybe that last sentence is on the money. Maybe we are experiencing short term pain, with long term gain on the horizon. Maybe SR are learning on the job, and capable of learning from their mistakes. That's a lot of maybes, but it still beats wetting the bed before it's even been slept in.
Oh I agree. It might actually work. But it wasn't part of the master-plan - we're in disaster recovery mode (or some might call it blagging) and we might get a diamond from the rough. But as you say, lots of presumptive maybe about that.
Positives are, it’s worked really well for Fulham & Burnley. Maybe we will go that route. But I would say those success stories are the outliers.
If Solak gets the merest sense he's been 'taken in' I wouldn't want to take his next phone call. None of us really knows what is being discussed, decided etc, fortunately. None of us are being paid to provide business advice, thankfully All of us just need to go with the flow and, who knows, we may yet prove to be a pretty successful club over the next few years.
Nah, as I say, this wasn't part of the plan. There's no doubt about that. It's a cock-up, initiated by appointing Jones (though some might think things could have been dealt with better by making a change over the summer/buying a striker etc etc). The disaster though is Jones, and now we're in rescue mode, blagging mode, make the best of a ****show mode, call it what you will. Ankersen will be covering his arse right now though, no doubt, it'll be a case of "how can I turn this around into a positive".
The Marsch situation cannot be dressed up as anything other than a PR disaster for the club in an already overly congested field of disasters.
Maybe when I get home from work, Megan Fox will be on my bed in her lingerie waiting for me. Seems about as likely to me as bouncing straight back up with these bell ends in charge of the club.
"Well, she has just split up from Machine Gun Kelly, so she's more available than a decent manager. Don't give up hope, Os!" - Rasmus Ankersen
How many managers get sacked every season? More than half usually. So there’s a lot of crap managers out there. Not that strange that we hired a crap one then really.
No doubt. But there's a gap between "not doing as expected/crap" and "unmitigated disaster". A competent board should never employ the latter. Ankersen has done it in two of his four managerial appointments.
I repeat once again that since Rasmus left his job as co-Director of Football at Brentford over a year ago, they have done very nicely despite, or possibly because of, not replacing him.
The "co-director" part there is key as well. I worry he may have too much power here on the football side, which is why it's a blessed relief that Wilcox is joining.
Not defending the club. Jones was a mistake. I can just about see why they went for him, but clearly taken in by bluster that veiled the insecurities. I have never been convinced by Rasmus' metrics. I spend most of my time these days writing AIs and work with a couple of sports analytics companies. I know a couple of the clubs we work with (high level) have dossiers on Selles. I've never come across Jones before! How do people get to be managers? They get promoted. Look at Selles' background. It's really extensive and while he hasn't managed in the PL, he has several years of PL experience under Ralph. If the players like him, he's had a good mentor (Ralph is a fantastic tactician and student of the game, just not a great man manager). I'm also not saying he's the answer, just he's qualified, experienced and if the players like him, as worthy of a punt as anyone.
One of the appointments that Ankersen got right was Thomas Frank, who was of course promoted from his assistant manager position when Dean Smith left.
Yeah, I'm not convinced Selles is the wrong move, though I have no idea if he's the right move, either. Having experience being mediocre isn't necessarily the best option, though Selles is a complete black box.
