Yep it has Doubt 25million would even pay for the proposed 12000 seater new stadium Which makes it a non starter
Acun and his team will know this just as everybody else does, it's just the opening salvo, testing the water.
It's a fantasy figure, I'm involved in the redevelopment project at Wakefield trinitys ground ATM which is including a new 2,500 capacity stand, refurbishment of their north stand, floodlight upgrades to LED technology and a 4G pitch installed. That alone is Approx a £14m project.
Been saying this for weeks, absolutely perfect location. I wish this city centre complex idea would just die. Nearly every professional club in the world has their training ground away from the busy city. There must be an ulterior motive than it just being a big empty piece of land, are they hoping that the council will help with costs?
It’s a conservation area. I used to live down Hymers Avenue and there was uproar when the school wanted to cut two trees down to create a new access gate to help with traffic flow at school leaving time. The school is probably listed as well.
The idea that Hymers could be bought for a price that would be affordable to the owner of the club shows how completely divorced from reality some people are.
I think one thing worth mentioning is that Acun seems relaxed about leasing the land and extending the lease on the stadium. Consequently, there will be no cost for buying the land or the stadium, and the revenue for selling Cottingham training grounds I would expect has been factored into these figures. I see in the YP them digging up the Allam's £100m sports village project, again knowing them, that would include buying the stadium and the surrounding land.
It doesnt matter if if only cost £25. No-one has committed any money up to kick start this. It could be the best plan in the World but without a serious cash injection nothing is going to happen and I feel the figure of £25m has been plucked out of thin air.. Just a point of interest, has anyone seen any plans for this yet? I said three days ago that the HDM jumped the gun in announcing this and I stand by that. The proposal/dream is only at the very early stages of talks, no way should have it been out in the public because there is nothing to report. However, the public reaction so far may have surpried a few people, but the sceptic in me still says it was announced by the HDM expecting just the opposite?
The HDM had a story to run, why did Tan tell them all about it if he didn’t want it in the media? Reporting on it is the very point of their existence.
Tan did do that and isn’t that exactly what Allam did? Float it in the media to try and gain support of the public?
If the land doesn't belong to you and you have to negotiate to buy the site from three different parties, then demolish the buildings (two of which are listed), it would probably end up costing a fair bit. Which is fairly academic, as it's far too small, it's not remotely practical a site to get hundreds of thousands of people in and out of and in October it's like the Arctic there, you'd be lucky if half the stalls weren't blown into the estuary. I think the Costello option is the most practical one, assuming it stays inside the Hull boundary, though it's surrounded by residential, so there's bound to be plenty of objections.
Timimg is everything. I'm 100% behind this plan and I hope it comes off in some shape or form. But my point is this is beyond a sporting decision, it is a political football and the HDM know that. Personally, I didn't see a lot wrong with the plans Assem Allam put forward and the ruling council's responce to these latest ones are just the opposite to the reaction the Allams got, and to be fair, the reporting is more favourable too, although the comments from some of the brain dead voters on Hull Live are exactly the same. So it does seem there could be a ground swell of public support this time, if the findings of the poll done by Hull Live on moving the Fair are anything to go by, which we didn't see when Assem proposed a similar plan. Involving Fc is a big factor and as much as I personally have no time for RL, I do know they an internal part of the plan and need to be involved to make it work. I just think it was a bit early to be announcing this, weeks before electioneering starts locally, the week before the start of the new RL season, and before anyone has produced any funding or drawn any plans to back it up. Perhaps the public reaction has surprised them?
And how does it make money? Outlay of 100 million or more and no return and constant upkeep Ok if you’re owned by a small country like Man City
Let's hope so. Don't get me wrong, the media seem to be in favour of this, which cannot be said when the Allams proposed something very similar. it is a very sensative issue because the Fair and therefore local politics and emotions are involved. And maybe he already has sourced the funding? Now that would have been worth announcing.
I would assume it's a gym, courts (indoor and 11-a side) and other things for public hire, as well as state of the art private equipment for Hull FC, City, etc. to use; space for bars and entertainment on match days, etc.
I thought that was the implication unless I've misunderstood the article? I didn't think it was a plea for funding but rather their statement of intent.
