Definitely unflappable as you say mate....he wouldn't run if his ass was on fire....going to be a huge player for us. I bet Monty gets warm and fuzzies when he sees him play.
It seems all the paper talk about him has increased his confidence along with how the whole team playing well . All the players seem to have a freedom to try things and they play without fear or pressure .
Getting better with every game. His commanding of his box to vastly improved too. Definitely should use the Mignolet song for patta
There's some scope to using the the Oh Tommy Tommy song aswell, aslong as he doesn't mind getting called Tony.
He's doing brilliantly but this is massive hyperbole in my opinion. He's 22 and can't even get in the England Under 21 squad. Joe Bursik is the same age and has 10 England under 21 appearances, more experience in the Championship and now he's signed for a team in the Champions League. Pickford was making his full debut at 23. Aaron Ramsdale is only 2 years older and has 150 premier league appearances and played European football. At the same age Dean Henderson was in a Sheff Utd side which got promoted and conceded the fewest goals in the league. He followed it up with a good season in the Premier League. Patterson can be an excellent goalkeeper without ever really being in the international conversation, which is probably beyond him, unless he continues to improve far in excess of what someone normally would at this stage. For him to develop into that level of keeper though, he needs to be in the Premier League next season. He's not playing for his country in the Championship at Sunderland.
Watching the full 90 minutes again and Danny Collins says the ball went 'up and over' which would've been mad enough ... ... but Patterson actually kicks it out for a throw in yards from the touchline
Allow me to play devil's advocate to your point. Patterson was only playing in the u21s/23s whatever it was called when the terrible 2 were in charge of memory serves me right. I think he only went out on loan after KLD came in. If you're only playing to a low standard like the u21s you can't really learn to become better than you already are as you're not really pushed in your development. For the likes of Dean Henderson, Man Utd sent him out on loan at an early age to a good standard and he's gone in from there - Patterson has only been playing at that standard this season. Plus they say some players develop later than others. Not saying your point is invalid but this puts across another point of view
Nick Pope at 22/23 was on loan at Bury and York in League 2 from Championship Charlton. Players develop at different rates
Absolutely true but Nick Pope is 30, has 1 England cap and has been a mid-table Premier League keeper for most of his career. I think Patterson is probably similar to Pope in a lot of ways and if he has that kind of career, he'll have done brilliantly. I'm not suggesting he's not capable of having a great career, but he'll have to improve on a ridiculous scale to be an England number 1 (and that's no criticism of the lad).
@Flash Gordon Slight hyperbole yes, obviously a lot of things would have to fall into place, either us being promoted or him being bought and playing for another premier League club. And him continuing on his current trajectory, he's improved massively already this season, I see the potential for a lot more. Maybe he'll hit a ceiling beforehand and not make it, but potential is there imo
https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/g...-up-sunderland-star-to-englands-senior-squad/ Above article is probably load of crap but just saying
The above article is the same story from the Sun and being republished. I think it is probably a load of crap (but not that he's been scouted). Southgate will have people looking at every young keeper. It's feasible that someone has been looking at him from the U21 squad and sees him as a potential person for future full squads, but he's not there yet. In fact, if you read it, he's being considered because Sam Johnstone has an injury. So he's behind a 29 year old who hasn't played a game this season and had 1 Premier League season in his entire career. None of this is me being critical of Patterson, I think it's incredible for him to be where he is. But he's probably somewhere around the edge of the top 10 English goalkeepers currently, in terms of ability.
