Good Morning. It's Thursday 16th February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road How much of a gamble are Leeds taking on Skubala When Michael Skubala joined Leeds last August, nobody, including himself would have drempt that six months later, he would be in temporary charge of one of the biggest football clubs in Britain. That's not to say he doesn't have an impressive resume. The 40yo has coached both football and futsal on a national developmental basis, as well as Director of Football at one of England's leading sports Universities. However, experience is what matters, and the closest Skubala has come to managing a club, is Barwell FC. Many of us were terrified of the prospect of hiring Carlos Corberan, due to lack of experience, yet the club are happy to see how things go, with a guy who less than ten years ago was a PE teacher. Time is running out. With 231 appearances over six years, Macca became a fans favourite on the Elland Road terraces. After retiring as a player, he returned to Leeds as Head Coach, spending almost twelve months in charge (2008, during our League One days). He has been out of work since October last year, when he (and Gerrard) were sacked by Aston Villa. “I’ll throw another name out there. On an interim basis, something until the end of the season, someone who’s got experience in the Premier League; Gary MacAllister,” “Bring him in, he knows the game, he knows the game inside out. He’s out of work. His record as Leeds manager was a good one. If you’re looking into him and you need some help, there’s no better man than him in my eyes in that sense.” please log in to view this image Bookies make Everton favourites The bookies have predicted an Everton victory this weekend, when Leeds visit Goodison Park. The Whites have not won a league game since November 5th last year, and have slipped to within a point of the relegation zone. Should Everton win, they will go two points clear of Leeds who will drop into the final three. Leading Bookmakers Bet365 have placed odds of 7/5 for a Toffee's with Leeds at 2/1, and 23/10 for the draw. The only good news is they believe Leeds will survive this season. Southampton 1/5, Bournemouth 2/9 and Everton 11/10 are favourites to be playing Championship football next season, with the Whites next in line at 2/1. Much will depend on what happens in the next fortnight. please log in to view this image
Rather scoobs than macca if I'm honest. Shambles it's come to this. Risking our premier league status on either shouldn't even be considered. But here we are, and we all got to back scoobs to the hilt Morning all
Morning all. If Cellino was in charge of this managerial debacle, he'd be getting a hammering by every fan
I have nothing against the present trio having a go. Gary mac was a terrible tactician he is not for me. Gerrard got the Scottish job on his reputation as a player and is way out of his depth as a coach. Big sam is the only one being touted as a stop gap by some fans. Not sure about him but looks like barrel scraping time till the summer.
Now we have a world class manager in place we can make a late charge for a European place. Morning all
Morning all As long as we don’t get any further injury problems we’ll beat Everton and Southampton and we’ll all be feeling like we did just two weeks or so back when we signed McKennie If, at the end of the season, any of the directors says at an interview “lessons have been learned” I just hope the interviewer points out those magical words were echoed last season and you all learnt little. An obvious no to MacAllister
'lessons have/will be learned'.......applies to virtually everything in every walk of life, politics, child welfare, immigration etc,etc....and more often than you can shake a stick at they invariably happen again ...rinse repeat.......macca a no for me, once a part of the great midfield quartet and fabulous player and leave it at that
It’s Thursday and I should be exited about smashing the ginger fella’s Everton side. Right now even though I know we are better than last season I’m bricking it simply because the board have screwed up. Prefer Skoobs to Marsch but the ideal would have been a new head coach who had a plan. I don’t want Big Sam, Macca, Gerrard or anyone out of a job unless they are called Gallardo or Martino This game is season defining More than a 6 pointer This game shows if we wasted all the money spent in the summer and January Massive
The way I look at it… We were all excited about the January signings, we’d come to accept we were stuck with Jesse until the end of the season and all felt the squad was better. I’d hoped for a point against Man U and hoped by some miracle we’d be outside a relegation spot. We got that point, check. We are outside the relegation places check. We outplayed them at home and were unlucky Bonus (as we were better than I’d have imagined). I could throw in I’d have expected an extra 3-4 goal deficit over the two games. So for me feeling the squad is better off with Skubala than Jesse we’re ahead of where I expected us to be. My wheels will come flying off if we lose against Everton but at this very moment in time, we’re better off. I’d be gutted if we’d have got that sacked Ajax guy, Lampard or Gerrard. And I just feel anyone with no PL experience would set us back at this very moment. Basically, Jesseless means we’re better off now than we were the day the transfer window slammed shut
By tea time Saturday we could be 2nd bottom and 2 points behind Bournemouth and Everton with West Ham 4 points ahead. It starts to all look a bit ****y. Of course we could take the win and 3 points and results could go our way putting us 4 points clear of trouble. That’s the ideal weekend, but bricking it and we shouldn’t be in this position
I read his interview with the YEP he mentioned his time with Barwell FC and the “challenge of managing individuals within the group” getting them to “buy into the project”. I ****ing hate him already.
Yes I’m sure our guy’s spell at Barwell has equipped him perfectly for a relegation battle, not to mention his vast two game experience as a PL coach
Well as a player Macca was class, but he dirtied his bib in that Histon game. Regardless if he had the flu, he should have been stood up and trying to motivate the players. Instead he sat on the bench with a blanket over him. I'm happy enough with the interim manager.
I think it was Radrizanni who started using that stupid word”project” grinds on me every time I hear it
Let's get excited about Scubala when he wins a game. Played well against scum twice but he's going to be up against top class coaches from here in. Time will tell but in my opinion way too soon to say he's better or worse than Jesse. It's a ridiculous situation that the board might get lucky with and that's what it will be, luck. He could be great or another Hockaday
