I don't know the solution to that. The Directors of a company have a fiduciary duty to the shareholders and I can't see how they could argue that reducing prices while the stadium was selling out was sensible. It's really a wider problem for society to get wealth more evenly spread out. The entire political system is designed to stop that of course.
7 defeats in 13 premier league games may not be really dire, but its not great either and add in the way we are playing which in my opinion is even worse than under Jose and I don't think his position is as solid as you suggest
Directors have a duty to their customers because that is the basis of their company. In this case it is not a simple company like a supermarket it refers to itself as a club and part of the duty of the Directors of that club is to make access for members. Spurs are halfway between a full blown business like, say Tesco and a Community Company set up for the benefit of that community. Yes they have a duty to make a profit but not at the expense of excluding members.
Statistics don't give a complete picture. Win/points ratio mean little if the fare being served up is 2nd rate. If - and I'd say from this point in time it's a big if - Conte wins a trophy and secures another year in CL then his tenure might be considered a success. But for now I'd say the jury is well and truly out.
Stats for on-pitch performance actually do. Sadly there is woeful education regarding which particular statistics are : 1. significant (the values obtained, and the time period in which they are gathered over, can be shown NOT to be accountable by chance) 2. actionable (what use/value do they give) Examples of #1 are the win percentages of managers (this one was simply demonstrated years ago by lennypops) . Examples of #2 are in the "Squad performance watch" article (lots of measures being gathered, analysing those that show a sizeable change at any moment and whether they might explain the overall state of affairs - wins, GF, GA etc) .
I'm not sure what you think about this but this team should be out of the CL. The team that finished last season is/was a completely different proposition (hic-cups apart). What happened to it?
It's a widespread problem in the game, unfortunately. I know a Sunderland fan that paid £36 to go to their game against QPR last night. That's more than any away ticket in the Premier League, rather bizarrely. I also know a West Ham fan that paid £61 for their upcoming Conference game against... someone. Bayern tickets for their CL tie v PSG last night were €70, apparently. Disgraceful. The Bundesliga definitely seems like the best value for money top league, to me.
The solution for me is is a proper cap on ticket prices across the league. Clubs are paying out more and more on transfer fees, more on player wages, more to parasite agents and more on sacking managers and coaches. They are getting hundreds of millions from TV deals and sponsorship deals. Keeping ticket prices to £30 for Category B and C games and £40 for Category A games will not hinder the club. There are 8000 premium seats in the ground so lowering the prices on the rest would not wreck the club financially. If they lost £35 per the 54000 remaining tickets it would come to £1.9 m per match. Times that by 19 league games and it comes to £36m per season. I know the answer is what about the other clubs not doing this and gaining an advantage...that's where governing bodies need to put it strict spending caps on clubs regarding wages and transfer spending. I would also argue £36m a season ain't that much for share holders to lose compared with Lo Celso, Richarlison, Ndombele, Sessegnon, Sanchez, Gil, Bissouma, Clarke, who have either flopped or not been given a chance at the club. This ain't a dig at you BTW...I am just irritated about being priced out of seeing my team very often.
The rise in ticket prices suggests at least one of the following : 1. Profiteering 2. For all the mentioned revenue streams, clubs in fact cannot balance the books on transfer/wage fees without increasing the match day spectator costs (which is therefore a "vicious circle" ) . The solution as you said would be for sports governing bodies to attempt to impose spending limits (given their general hatred of the PL I am surprised UEFA have not at least put this one out there into the public domain) .
Perisic and Son heatmaps, nicked from r/coys: please log in to view this image please log in to view this image Where the **** is Son supposed to be playing there?
That is a shocking indictment of Conte-ball. Son has the "signature" of a "box to box" MF, against an opposition that were hardly relentless attack.
That will come with time, a couple of seasons with Romero will get him up to speed ,hopefully picking his battles
It is like giving a starving dog a rubber bone, I am positive this squad are better than the football it is producing
Interesting idea but it would be terrible timing for us as due to the new stadium we will soon have the highest matchday revenue in the world so any limit on it would penalise us more than anyone else. I can't see any such rule getting past the competition authorities either. I have no wish to deprive poorer people of going to top class football matches but exactly the same arguments apply to all entertainment choices. Some would prefer to go to the opera or the ballet.
Honestly, Sonny's heat map looks more like one you expect from Ben Davies Of course, the bigger question is why the hell Perisic appeared to be playing in goal
Passmap time ...no, seriously, we didn't actually line up with Sonny as a CM did we? please log in to view this image Also, WTF is that shape? Romero our deepest CB when his job is to move upfield with the ball, Emerson further forward than Son or Perisic, Deki playing high but getting little service- it's a mess
I haven’t seen a heat map yet but I have a feeling Emerson’s will be just as baffling as Son’s, because he was almost nowhere to be seen as Leao had free reign down the flank which prompted Romero being dragged out at times. Why play Emerson as an attacking RWB when you’ve got an attacking RWB in the squad? Emerson starting should’ve been with the aim to contain Leao. It’s **** like this with Conte that’s just doing my nut in. There’s absolutely zero logic to any of his tactics, selections and lack of substitutions. Edit: HBIC’s pass map basically shows it.
The full set is here A few highlights Emerson is up and down the whole right flank Romero looks like a right-sided DM Sarr is painting the entire middle third Skipp is playing central yet drifting to the RW Lenglet's looks like a LB
I don't tend to read too much into this kind of thing, but this for me summarises the problem with how we're trying to use Perisic and have done the entire season. I only really noticed it when I went to a game before the world cup and happened to have seats bang on the halfway line which afford me a great view of the flanks. He literally hugs the touchline most of the game. Now, there is nothing wrong with this per se, but making that his default starting position does the following: 1) Makes it difficult for anyone (Son especially) to make an overlapping run. This has been noticeably absent all season whereas on the other flank we routinely see Royal/Kulu, Hojbjerg and Skipp last night overlapping Kulu or Royal. 2) Requires the player to skin his full back and whip in a cross from the byline. Perisic hasn't got the pace to do this anymore, and certainly not against the better RBs out there. 3) Alternatively, don't aim for the byline just send in crosses from a deeper angle, but this requires good aerial presence in the box and we only really have Kane and Bentancur who seem to be decent in the air. In fact I can't recall many goals from headers in open play in a long time. Kane against City last season? Bottom line is, we're playing Perisic like he's prime Danny Rose, which at 34 years of age he isn't. Either play him in Son's position or don't play him at all.
