Definitely and I think Pearson knows that , his costs may be reduced it will be ‘their’ stadium , plus I suspect we are aiming for sole use of the MKM
I'm afraid I just can't see this happening, due mainly to councilors not being brave enough. The reality is that that area is a **** heap and badly needs regeneration. It would be tragic to loose such a development opportunity. These opportunities don't come round very often. I'm not for one minute saying the council should bend over backwards and agree to whatever they want, but they should surely embrace the opportunity and do all they can to make sure it happens. If I was a betting man (which I aren't), I'd bet that Acun and Tan will be frustrated in their efforts and over time will lose the will and walk away, and the opportunity will be lost ... possibly for ever. I hope I'm wrong, not just for the sake of our football club but also for the potential benefit for the city & region.
What actually are the possible solutions? Council agrees to move the fair from Walton Street. It either finds another site (they seem to be saying in the article that there isn't one) or the City just loses the fair. Really can't see the latter being allowed to happen, it's just too big a part of Hull. The problem with finding another site of course is that it requires a large area to be kept empty for it, which you'd be mad to do for the same reason that we don't want Walton Street to be left undeveloped. Could East Park be made to work? Is there room to put all the big rides there without obliterating the grass? Probably not I guess.
It’s a good post but you lost all credibility by putting loose instead of lose Should be in the grind your gears thread Or firing squad one or the other
It’s a wonderful idea however I hope they have bought quality macs as they are about to learn what “pissing in the wind” means in English.
The 2 places that spring to mind, would be St. Andrews Quay (either the Mr Chu side or the Booker/Macro side), or on the Humber Bridge car park. If only there was some sort of way to 'Level Up' a place, like all the crappy unused space around Craven Park
I thought the same about St Andrews Quay, but I don't see it being big enough for the fair by quite a long way.
Maybe FC's 12,000 seater stadium will have one of those airport travelators fitted from bus station so the 6000 of them that need 2 seats can waddle there more easily?
I have had some small involvement with trying to use public land for events and the amount of red tape and boxes that need ticking even for something very small can be quite ridiculous. I couldn’t imagine what’s involved in something the scale of Hull fair, I highly doubt it’s as simple as “it can just go here job done.”
This is from the articles that Chazz posted to start the thread. The football club want to build their new sports village on the site of the car park, but owing to the long-standing agreement with the Showman’s Guild as its site for historic Hull Fair, the footprint of the new development will likely have to be adjusted. It's understood there is a growing desire from both Hull City and Hull FC to access the majority of the Walton Street land to build the 'Sports Village', but there is a reticence from the council given the long-standing tradition - and agreement - it holds with the Showman's Guild over the historic and legendary Hull Fair.
FC need a smaller stadium, nothing against them but it's way too big and I bet even FC's share of the running costs are high.
Ah OK. Not sure in that case. I know there was a debate years ago about police costs (the Police wanted to charge full cost) and the Showman's Guild proved from very old case law that it was classed as a 'historic fair' (or something like that) which meant the Police couldn't do that (it would have been the Council paying anyway, although indirectly they would presumably have put up pitch rent so the Guild members would have paid in the end, hence them arguing the point) Not sure if that same case law means it can't be moved though. That would seem strange.
i do think a monorail would be a good idea with planning permission, we could connect it to the city centre, truly making the sports village a part of the city monorail having no traffic, makes it a very quick access after arriving via intercity rail
