Goal aside, Gil was probably MOTM for Sevilla on the weekend too.

    Conte’s killing us.

I don’t think this would appease the fan base. Many would see it as a huge risk.

Surely now is the time for 4-3-3? We’ve got no left wing back worthy of the name and skipp and sarr showed that we’ve got good strength in the centre of the park.

Hoddle normally talks a lot of bollocks, but he was right about our wingers tonight.
Son and Kulusevski never received the ball out wide facing the opposition goal.
Ball to feet with their backs to goal and a Milan player up their arse in the middle of the park.
Why have we changed what was working last season? To accommodate Perisic? I don't get it.

    Sarr was really impressive.

He doesn't have the physique (yet) but his movement, ability to 'glide' with the ball, turn on a sixpence, deceptive burst of pace over the first yards, willingness to draw players in before releasing and remain totally calm under pressure makes him the first player I've seen in a Spurs shirt to properly remind me of Moussa Dembele since the Belgian left.

I hope he doesn't unnecessarily bulk up. I think it would damage his mobility.

Agreed. Still looks a bit gangly so could do with a bit more to him, but not to the same extent as Dembele. By all accounts from his fellow footballers, the man was a freak of nature. Players would bounce right off him yet he moved like a ballerina.

And only 20 yrs old. He's going to be a decent player if managed correctly.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Romero is a bit of a ****ing clown and fast becoming a liability

he might be our ‘best’ defender but that doesn’t mean he gets to choose wether we risk going down to 10 men or not

Needs to sort his ****ing attitude out

it stinks of a player who actually thinks he’s better than the club imo

still in it but that’s all there is to take from this game

1-0 loss is much better than what some were fearing. We should be able to win by a 2 goal difference next week.

Sarr and Skippy did very well. Skippy was tiring mid way through the second half but that’s understandable.

Romero was at fault for the goal. He’s definitely regressed since his injury prior to the WC.

I would be happy to have Stellini replace Conte but not sure he wants to be numero uno.

Just needs that “adult body” that I think literally comes with age.

IIRC both Bale and Kane filled out around 21 or 22 so we could very well see Sarr do the same within the next 18 months or so. That’s the type of physique that’d suit him I reckon.

He strikes a similarly sentimental tone as he did in the pre-match conference.

And tbh I totally understand it. His family still lives back home and have no intention of moving here, despite our overwhelmingly superior cuisine, weather and architecture. He's been through one hell of a tough year both in his social and professional life, as well as his own health seemingly not something he can take for granted anymore.

His trusted right hand man is about to be banned from football and by now it will be wholly clear to him that he is a terrible fit for a club like Spurs. Our footballing ethos and recruitment strategy are on totally different wavelengths to his and not changing any time soon.

The signs are it's a matter of 'when' rather than 'if' at this stage. His contract expires in four months and tbh unless he pulls off something remarkable (top 4 plus the FA Cup might do it), I can't see Levy offering him a new contract. Nor can I see Conte accepting one even if it is offered.

Unless results totally collapse, I think he'll see out his contract here and return to Italy, which means in a best case scenario we have four months to plan for next season.

Which means of course come August 13th we will be on the phone to Alan Pardew.

    There's definitely similarities there.

The big difference being Sarr doesn't appear to enjoy kicking/stamping/elbowing people.

Didn’t realise we were the 3rd highest in goals scored in PL

I guess it’s the other end we have our problems having conceded the 6th highest

    very easy solution tbh

yet here I am waiting for Dier/Davies to outlast a 5th manager

A 1-0 defeat was certainly not the worst we would have predicted - or indeed expected after the first few minutes.
However, I'm finding it difficult to be as optimistic as some here for next week.
What's going to change / improve? The best players last night were Sarr and Skipp, one of which will likely be dropped for the returning Hojbjerg. Next best player was probably Emerson, who should have played at the weekend, while the new LWB with his experience of European football would have been better starting last night! <doh>
Conte doesn't appear to have a Plan B so we can expect much of the same: little creativity and a misfiring frontline including a totally out of form 'star' forward.

I do try and be positive - I really do, but I'm becoming the Forums 'Eeyore! <laugh>'

What's going to change you ask. What changed between City and Leicester? The mindset changed and that's what we get with Tottenham, that's why we are inconsistent. What will happen in the return leg in London? Who knows but I bet it's different to the game in Milan.

Guys...cast your mind back to 2001 and ask yourself whether we should be disappointed in a season where we are fifth in February and still in the Cnampions League and the FA Cup. Pre ENIC we would have been delighted with that.

We are disappointed because we think the quality of the squad is better than the football they produce. Spurs have moved on from 2001 a long way. That means the expectations are rightly higher. Just like the cost of tickets and shirts.

That's like saying I should be happy to earn minimum wage because back in 2001 I was still in school and not earning anything, and had you offered me minimum wage as a teenager, I would've been delighted.
