I think he will do well for you, but to be honest I thought your board would be looking at a big name (not necessary a better manager, but a bigger global name if you get my drift?) Also with Vassell out for at least 6 months Becks may get the chance to impress. Although he will frustrate the hell out of you he will get you goals
Good point. Every season there will be some teams that having spent money, will have failed to win promotion. Bates can then point at them and say his policies are right. Difference is the others have a chance of promotion with some investment, we have absolutely no chance bar through a bit of luck in the play offs
This is right - spending doesn't guarantee success, but you can bet your ass that not spending guarantees failure.
Stoke went up and held there own,very little spent. spent a lot recently though,but lost to Bolton 5-0. Blackpool went up very little spent,even Swansea didn't spend much.
I guarantee that at least 80% of the clubs that have gone up in the last 20 years have been clubs that spent a relatively large amount of money when compared to competing clubs.

I would prefer to see the stats of clubs that refused to spend that haven't gone up. I bet it would be overwhelmingly more than the ones who did spend. I seriously don't get your point that buying wanted players from other clubs is a bad thing. It's called strengthening your team for a reason. Freebies and loanees are generally unwanted due to age, injury or lack of talent. No wonder those who rely on them have clear weaknesses in their squads.
