Good Morning. It's Tuesday 14th February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

    Three horse race

The race for the next Leeds Utd Manager has intensified, after Messrs Radrizzani and Orta performed a 180 degree u-turn, heeding their fans advice, and deciding against Alfred Schreuder. The 50yo was a special guest at the team hotel, and was treated to top seats to watch Sundays game. Following the match, the trio held talks, and next day, he returned to Holland.

What went wrong? I very much doubt every candidate gets wined and dined by the club. Spending time at the team hotel also suggests that he met the players and coaching staff. It's all very odd.

Andoni Iraola (5/2) has once again returned to the top of the pile (according to the bookies), with only a £10m compensation package between them, and their main target. Former Wolves Manager Nuno Espirito Santo is next in line at 3/1, with Steven Gerrard just behind as third choice at 7/2.

    We knew Iraola would stay

Rayo Vallecano's Sporting Director David Cobeno couldn't resist the opportunity to rub salt, deep into the wounds of Leeds Utd, bragging how they knew that Andoni Iraola wasn't going to go anywhere.

The Madrid based outfit have been transformed from a mediocre Segunda División club to a top 5 La Liga outfit with European desires, under the tenure of Iraola, and are desperate to keep hold of him. They've slapped a €10m clause into his contract, and have refused Leeds any kind of access just to make sure. Perhaps carma can have an influence, in the same was it does for Leeds, every time Andrea Radrizzani takes to twitter! According to Cobeno:-

"Don’t worry, because we trust Andoni a lot. There is a close relationship. Communication is daily and fluid. Although there was interest, we knew that Iraola was going to continue with us." “Yes, it is the main objective [a new deal for Iraola]. We are super happy with him. We will have it difficult because many teams will come into play in the summer. Playing in Europe would be a claim… for those who are here and those who could come.”

Should we be worried about Rutter's slow start

With 150 minutes on the clock over three substitute roles and an FA Cup appearance , it's fair to say Georginio Rutter has had a quiet start to life at Elland Road. Although very early in his Leeds career, the 20yo has yet to wow the Elland Road faithful, causing murmurs on social media regarding his £35.5m fee.

Leeds can't afford to spend that kind of money on a player for the future, especially when the likes of Alejandro Garnacho are performing to a much higher level, and is two years younger. Perhaps this is an unfair comparison, as Rutter is most likely still finding his feet, but when you're a point off the drop zone, and are about to play two of the three clubs below you, there's little time for nurturing.

Calvert-Lewin may miss relegation six pointer

Everton ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin may miss Saturday crunch tie against Leeds. The 25yo England star has had a miserable season thus far with injuries, netting just once in nine starts. He missed Monday night's Merseyside derby (which thankfully Liverpool won 2-0), after which Toffee's gaffer Sean Dyche gave the following update regarding his troublesome thigh injury:-

“We are just watching it and monitoring it, obviously he needs to get himself right, not just the injury but generally. He has had a tough time so we need to monitor him."

Morning all. Bit of a farce eh. Stevie G <laugh><laugh><laugh>. On a plus, Everton are still rubbish after their fluke against Arsenal. Mind you, if we take off the rose tinted glasses, with two wins since the Chelsea on in August, we're also crap. Looks like being a right old battle up to the last couple of games again. Best of luck to Heidi today. Just a thought, is our Sniffer running the club by any chance. If not, maybe he should be

    Morning all,

Obviously very early days for Rutter but first impressions of him are that he doesn’t have as much pace as I’d hoped, and doesn’t press enough.

Hopefully he’s still getting up to speed and is getting used to the system because he’ll need to start justifying his price tag asap.

    Morning all.

Last week my gut feeling was no to Nuno but after a weekend on the lash, another defeat and still no white smoke that's now changing.

Maybe he is the right choice after all.

    Ok let's do it.

It's in your hands. Get to the bookies and lash a wad on him and get him to the top of the betting. I suspect dumb and dumber are working off the bookies odds anyway

Probably best to not get too swayed by the price tag.

Thought he looked promising and he's quick enough with some very good skills. Let's just give him a chance to find his feet as I'm sure he's never played in a match as intense as Sunday's before.

No comment on the manager debacle.

On Rutter, he was bought for his potential. People are hung up on the price tag, understandably, but he’s 20 and the premier league is a step up from anything he’s seen before. For every gnonto (who lets remember was eased in after a couple of months in the 21s whilst training with the first team) who seemed to hit the ground running, there are 10s/100s of very talented players who take time to settle in. He’s just had a few cameos, the lad needs time. The problem is the team doesn’t have time.

    One more on Rutter.

Given a little bit of time he'll be right up there with Gnonto and Summerville as our best young players but with a different profile. Also you can clearly see that physically he's still got a lot of maturing to do, similar to 2 year old thoroughbred race horse with a fine pedigree and raw talent this boy will become a man of some substance.

    Are you sure it's a debacle ?

Everton took 2 weeks before getting their man and we've still another week to match that time frame. Plus we all want the next appointment to be the right one so maybe that just takes a bit of time.

I'd expect something to happen this week personally, but if it doesn't then I'm still comfortable going forward, especially now that the system/tactics that were holding us back have been ditched.

    Morning all..

Alfred Schreuder - The day before the game, on a couple of forums, Fans were saying he has been seen in a top hotel in Leeds, he is attending the game and had met with Ten Hag. A rumour started on Waccoe and he shot in as Sky Bet favourite

After the game Pope said he’d seen him in the stands speaking to recruitment staff, Pope, Hay and tons of other press photographers were there and not one got a picture of him in this hotel or in the ground in these “top seats”.

Social media; no fans have (that I’ve seen) posted a picture of him in these “top seats”. The media and specially Hay and Pope have egg on their face causing a frenzy over something that was never going to happen.

Alfred Schreuder simply asked to meet with Ortas team whilst he was here to throw his hat into the ring, wouldn’t Orta himself have met with the guy himself if he had a chance.

There are plenty of news stories out there stating Leeds spoke to several interested candidates over the weekend and none are being considered

are you sure the system tactics have been ditched - Willy gnonto didn’t think so - rather than played a team that didn’t park the bus

the goals we scored at old Trafford were pure marschball

I’ll buy tweaked maybe, not buying ditched.. yet

Good morning realistically our chance of attracting a top manager is nil. If the deadly duo are serious about upping their success rate then i suggest get a caretaker. Appoint a full time coach in the summer and give him time to build the squad. Why would any decent coach come to a club at the bottom this late in the season. Sorry but we are not the attraction we think we are. Leeds are a potential championship side and need to adress the long standing issues.
Centre back is still a problem even Everton have better than us. Not one creative midfielder has been signed in years. We have three right backs (one on loan) and just Firpo who is being made to look better by wober but he is still shyte. Why spend money on wober and not on the players we need. We are back to square pegging up front and we need someone to come in and change our formation and tactics. We had three points in the bag at man utd. Any coach worth his salt would have shut man utd down second half but we let them run. Just flood the midfield how hard can it be.
Everton game is a must not lose now and we need to be clever. Tarkowski and coady are no mugs and are a better pairing than ours. Lose the next two games by playing nieve and we will be in serious trouble. Rads needed to sack Marsch at the world cup break and perhaps he wanted to. Did/does anyone actually want to take the job?. Everton got Lampard is that the best they could recruit?.

I’d agree it is in that we didn’t sack Jesse before the World Cup and we waited until after the transfer window, ideally we should have had a replacement lined up and something obviously went wrong with Radz and the white smoke comment but…

I don’t want us rushing through a dead cert failiure like an Alfred Schreuder or Big Sam. I’m comfortable for now with our temporary team, back to back games against Man U wouldn’t have been an ideal time for a new guy

So apparently Nuno has a €8 million release clause (according to Alex Crook on talkSPORT) so why do we keep approaching managers with clauses that we don’t want to buy out?

    Good morning all
Seems as though my first choice Poch is a none starter as with my second choice Tuchell, but the more i hear and look into Nuno Espirito Santo, he might just be the man, Did a great job at Wolves, although he did seem to be personally affected by what happened to Jimenez, and Possibly his heart was still not quite in it when he took the spurs job, but by all accounts seems ok now, I could think of a lot worse to take the Leeds Job (Gerrard) as prime example.
so a resounding yes to Nuno from me.
