Interestingly (since I never remember agreeing with him on much in real time), I find myself agreeing with a CBK comment on that thread. We crossed a line when we sacked Adkins, and while we briefly flourished, now karma is coming to collect. For everything you do in life, there’s a reckoning.

Those Adkins years were among my most enjoyable in several decades as a Saints fan. The PL years? Not so much…

They were great years, but the Poch and Koeman years were good too. I mean if you are going to be in the Prem, enjoy what you can. It is a bloated beast thought!

Poch years for me were my favourite of modern history. Some of the football we played was quite remarkable.

Koeman rocked a better blazer and chinos combo though <ok>

And coming back from 2-0 down at H-T, to beat Liverpool 3-2 will live on forever.

As good as Poch was I always felt he had one plan (a cracking one) but if it didn’t work there was no alternative. You would know how the game was going to go within the first 5-10 mins.

Koeman was more tactically astute and the more rounded manager imo.

Er....what? Koeman had a better squad to work with - not that Poch had a bad squad. But having Sadio Mane up front did give you plenty of options. Plus we had Tadic, VVD, Fonte, Wanyama, Bertrand. It really was a terrific squad. Poch with the squad Koeman had could have got us into the top 4 IMO.

Poch also had Wanyama and Fonte, and when Bertrand joined under Koeman, he was coming to us in very bad form. So you could credit Koeman with his turnaround.

Anyway, I'm not picking sides. Both excellent managers for us.

I've edited the title of this thread. No need to make a new thread.

I don't think this ends well, hopefully it is a short contract.

Still, all we can do now is back him. Hopefully some fans give him more of a chance than they did Nathan Jones.

Pleased to see the club move quickly. Whether you are happy with Marsch or not (there's definitely good arguments for and against him) it's better to have someone in than stuck in limbo like Leeds.

I don't say much on here just read and catch up with what people think and say, but I don't think Marsch is the way to go. Would love to be proved wrong. My Leeds friend reckons they have probably the best squad in 20 years and they have/are completely underperforming.

He’s not Jones, so he’ll have that on his side immediately.

Might not have been my first pick, but I’m a bit reassured that the club have liked him since before Sport Republic came in. Means this isn’t purely a Rasmus decision like Jones.

Let's hope it is a Gordon Strachan style appointment where everyone is apprehensive and then it all goes well

That first paragraph is a bit like Leeds describing Jesse!

That wasn’t me saying Koeman was better, but I hold them in equally high regard for their management of Saints. Both have their different strengths and weaknesses.

Pochettino for getting our players to ridiculous fitness levels and implementing a very successful pressing game.

Koeman for his pragmatism and managing to get what was almost a collection of strangers (albeit pretty good ones) up and running so quickly.

I've got my concerns (mainly how open we'll be at the back) BUT his philosophy should suit our squad. He's also capable of getting results against big teams.

Tbh, We leak goals anyway... might aswell go for it. I do worry about Bazunu though..., We will need him to be very good now on in.
