Starting Porro and Tanganga together was a very strange decision for a variety of reasons.
A new Spanish wingback who presumably doesn't speak much English.
Why pair him with a player who has barely played and doesn't speak Spanish?
Doubly perplexing when the alternative was Sanchez, who's played more and is Colombian.

That's harsh imo, Pochettino converted him from a cb to a cdm and he played well in that position for a couple of seasons for both Spurs and England where he was first choice in a side that reached the wc semi finals. He only ever filled in at RB when we were short and never let us down in that position either. He is a good enough to be a squad player now but his days as a first choice should be numbered.

Possibly harsh but he’s not been good in any position for a long time. The club can’t be keeping hold of players hoping they come gold again whilst hoping to progress.

He was made to look good by dint of the fact that he played alongside or in front of Jan and Toby. Those two even managed to make Sanchez look like a competent defender in 2018.

Dier is a useful squad option, nothing more. And since he lost a yard of pace (years ago now), he's lost the versatility that once upon a time made him a very useful squad option.

I don't dispute that but the unfortunate fact is that he is still currently a better option than both Sanchez and Tanganga and on a par with Davies and Lenglet we need an upgrade for sure but he could still be a useful squad player.

And alongside Dembele too!! Like Dele he was probably made to look better by better players, but until we have better players he gets in the team.

    Yeah agree.

First season he immediately won the crowd over on debut and then had a solid season throughout.
Second season he partnered Dembele well in the midfield and if people remember when we signed Wanyama the following summer many expected him to be backup to Dier, little did we know how good Big Vic would be as the DM.
But as Big Vic took that spot upon arrival, Dier often dropped into a back three with Jan and Toby and was great again, that was probably the best team we’ve seen in the Prem too, finished 2nd to Chelsea and played some blinding stuff, Son was also beginning to come good after a shaky debut season.

After that, it just went tits up for Dier. Injuries and illness wrecked him and nowadays he’s often a liability.

Dier is just so inconsistent and the brainfarts becoming more frequent.
He had a good game v Citeh and pundits highlighted that there was a team gameplan and he was pushing fwds into the mf, which compressed their movement. Nearly got caught out of position once or twice, but overall was a success.
Trouble was, it looked like he carried on playing that way this weekend, but the rest of the team didn't! <doh>

It does have to be said that our front three was pressing the Mansourites, so Dier had a somewhat easier game of it

Against Leicester we scored and sat back, and the brainfarts happened - not just with Dier, but Porro and Tanganga were also dropping bollocks left and right

I can’t believe Conte isn’t getting more heat. Imagine cock up after cock up, terrible displays the majority and not much noise about it.

Still dining out on achieving CL and still being in it. As soon as we are out and we don’t get top 4, the noise should be there.

    ****ing roaring.

The problem is the Lunatic Fringe will co-opt it and try and direct it to anti-ENIC

Apparently they didn't learn last week when about eight people showed up for their protest

I don’t think he’s still dining out on it. It was less than a year ago after all. The squad has been ripped apart with injury this season, especially right now.

There are many legitimate complaints about Conte, his tactical inflexibility, inconsistent quality of game management, and questionable (at times) selections. He’s clearly trying to brute force a process at Spurs and it’s not working this season - likely due to a far higher number of individual mistakes, which may be sometimes caused by systemic issues, and the fact that so many players have missed so much football.

If we tumble out of the CL to Milan, go nowhere in the FA Cup, and don’t make too 4 then I think serious questions will and should be asked, but there’s a lot of football left to play. What we need is stability but that’s been very hard to come by this year.

He still has more points from his first 51 league matches than any other Spurs manager though.

For comparison, when we were giving Juan Foyth his first few runouts, Poch made sure to have Davinson Sanchez next to him and Paolo Gazzaniga behind him as Foyth's English was pretty much non-existent, so we lined up with some Spanish speakers within earshot

    All valid and good points.

As quite of few of us say - if he can achieve top 4 playing **** football than we can stomach that.

Anything less, the knives are out.
