That's it. I've had it with Sports Republic.

I can believe they're seriously considering Marsch. What's wrong with Guardiola or Arteta? If SR were serious one or other of them would be ready to go with us. Why are our sights set so low?

    **** SR.

Dean Smith Aston Villa -> Norwich. In fact we got his sacked (final straw) then we were also the first team he played as Norwich

There is clearly a good team in there somewhere, the only issue we blatantly have is in defence. So in our eternal wisdom we are going for a guy who plays open expansive football, which will no doubt cause us to leak goal after goal again.

We also have an issue with scoring goals and controlling the midfield…

Bielsa, Gallardo, I’d even take a punt on Juric.

I’ve said before that if Marsch was a last choice then I’d make my peace with it. But it seems like all signs point towards him being first choice which is mad to me. Go back through the thread and the first reaction on here when Marsch’s name was put around was the same as mine but somehow over the last two days everyone has jumped on board.

I don’t believe the season is unsalvagable, 48 points up for grabs and 4 points from safety, I genuinely believe that’s a challenge some managers would try with a team with some decent talent in there. But it feels like we’ve gone for the guy whose free and yet to leave the country.

Ok, I get that you are just going on your gut. You would have Bielsa who was sacked last season by Leeds and took years to get Leeds up to speed but wouldnt take Marsch who was sacked last week by Leeds. Would you take David Moyes right now? He's led West Ham to only one point more than Leeds. Managers aren't always sacked because they are rubbish and Marsch isn't rubbish. His Leeds side were good in many aspects of their games and very close to a lot more points, certainly closer than we were and I consider our squad now to be better than Leeds on balance.

Every day that goes by our chances of staying up get slimmer. The players are rooted to the bottom and without a manager and utterly demoralised after listening to Pep of the Valleys for the last 3 months. Get an experienced leader in now and we have the best chance we are going to get. Wait 2 weeks and its all over.

We also have an issue playing 90 minutes without constantly switching off

    Marsch's philosophy when at RedBull

He did a lot of these seminars at the time, very open about his managerial approach which I appreciated a lot as a grassroots coach.

Perhaps that Alex Fergysun could be tempted out of retirement.

I must admit I thought the Marsch link was a joke made up by a Skate Wum, how low have we sunk?

If Marsch hadn’t just had a year at Leeds but instead was coming in direct from Leipzig, I suspect this board would be a lot happier with the idea.

He’s done fine at Leeds. Nothing brilliant, nothing awful. Lost players last summer, lost others to injury this season, brought young players in, played reasonable football. He fits in fine with what we are looking for.

Those who are unhappy need to have a rapid reality check, there’s likely no one out there you’d be happy with that would come to us.

If he’s the new man I’m happy to back him and give him a chance. On paper he’s far more promising than Jones*

*by my metrics, not by SR’s

That's not as irrational as you believe. If your biggest problem is that your defense is prone to errors when under pressure, one option available is play with a style that minimizes the amount of time they spend stuck in their own end, either by monopolizing possession or by breaking play up through pressing. Or perhaps you make teams think twice about throwing additional players forward, by upping your tempo and offering a credible threat to generate quick scoring chances (something we have lacked for eons). Yes, a collision between Sulemana and AMN resulted in Wolves gaining possession and scoring their second, but what created that situation was Wolves feeling comfortable enough to have four men pressing high despite being down to ten men:

    upload_2023-2-13_16-27-23.png

That image is nuts. Wolves had so little respect for our ability to generate attacks quickly that they had enough men forward to outnumber our back line when they created a turnover. And they were absolutely right to have that little respect! Playing with a more expansive style, rather than hoofing it forward, increases the potential risk of having that many players hunting the ball in such a narrow zone.
