I truly couldn’t say, I’d hope SR aren’t that thick as **** to go for one of those two though. If it is Marsch then I guess I’d have to deal with it but what I would like is to see that we are at least trying for other people, such as Gallardo, or even Juric first. And not just jump straight for Jesse cause he’s unemployed and in the country. If he’s a last choice then fine but at the moment he seems first choice and that’s just baffling to me.

It's fine. Marsch and the board have noted the problems Jones had with Saints fans and are embarking on a positive video campaign to get the St Mary's crowd on his side. First video has just been released.

They've all been sacked. Fat Sam sacked more times than Ive had hot dinners. Lampard and Gerrard would be disastrous IMO. Overseas managers with no experience of the ELP would be risky. Benitez maybe a good shout but has he still got it - Everton could maybe tell us. Marsch kept Leeds up and did a respectable job in the EPL - better than Ralph and NJ this season. Whether that means he could do the same with our lot, who knows

We are the last sandwich on the open buffet table covered in COVID. I'll be amazed anyone wants to take us on TBH.

So, we should make a decision based on how the fans will react after a point where survival isn't a realistic chance?

It seems like your desire is less that we try to survive, and more that we have ready-made excuses when we fail.

We have a bunch of fast, direct attackers, a number of whom have played in pressing systems before. When we have had success, it was by playing pressing, front-foot football. It's not an illogical pairing.

My desire is to get a manager that didn’t have his qualities brought into question just a week ago. I don’t see how it’s hard to grasp. I get we are the bottom of the pile and we aren’t gonna have managers beating on our door but to just go straight for him is insane, and I’ve said I’ll take him if he’s last choice but the fact we may not even speak to anyone else is just idiotic.

Also why is everyone saying we are relegated?! Teams around us can lose points and we are 4 points from safety with a game in hand of one of the bottom 3. We win 3 out of the next 4 and we are going to be looking at safety again. It’s madness that people are accepting relegation already.

Even just think of it from a players perspective. Do you really not think those players aren’t gonna be sat there on the first day thinking “why the **** should I listen to you? You were sacked by Leeds last week”.

We’d probably all like to think they’re professionals but it seemed quite clear they didn’t respect NJ from the second he walked through the door. So why would they now want to do anything for Jesse after he’s fresh from a sacking?

The PR alone would be disasterous, it would turn a laughing stock into a full blown comedy tour of a club.

Even still everyone keeps banging on that he’s good for our style, our style being pace and pressing. Is that really the style we should be adopting right now? I would much rather try and get someone whose good at making teams hard to beat and squeaking out wins.

Gallardo sounds like the man to get, but we're competing with Leeds there. Not sure how Juric is an improvement on Marsch.

It’s not about the improvement it’s about the optics side of it too. Juric will get more time in the eyes of the fans to bring whatever style he has into play even if he loses a few at the start. Marsch will be hounded as soon as he loses 2 on the bounce because every fan will have in the back of their head that he was let go just a few weeks ago so nothing will change or get better. So there will inevitably be comments about how bad it was to get someone in on the third week of February who wasn’t deemed good enough for the league in the second week of February. And that tension is not what the club needs right now.

It brings such unecassary pressure on a new manager and on SR themselves.

Juric has never lasted more than two years in any job. He once got fired 3 times in 2.5 years...by the same club.

I disagree. I think the fans you have in mind are the numbskull Twitter/FB lot. They're morons. Most reasonable Saints' fans would be relatively satisfied with Marsch, particularly given the circumstances, and what is on offer.

On the subject of hiring recently-fired managers, we once hired a guy who had left his club a few weeks earlier, at a time when they were languishing at the bottom of the table. A lot of people (and I was one) questioned firing a popular manager in order to bring in a guy with his track record.

But in the end, Poch turned out okay.

I really don’t know why you think this would be true. A lot of your dissatisfaction seems to be coming from the above thought, which I’m almost certain is not the case, and the fact that he’s been sacked by another club in a similar position.

Virtually all managers get sacked. Dyche got sacked for effectively relegating Burnley, but most of us would have taken him.

Do you think that a group of players who have performed so badly are in a position to take that approach? If that’s their attitude we really are screwed.

That’s my concern. Juric isn’t exactly great. There are quite a few people I’d prefer to Marsch, but Juric is not one of them.

Need context. Dyche got sacked after doing an incredible job at Burnley and keeping them up against the odds for years.

Marsch got sacked by a relegation rival, this season, with a team well matched to his philosphy. Before that, he was sacked from from his previous role.

His most successful spell was af RB Salzburg in Austria which essentially a 1 team league, so not exactly a tricky job.

Yeah that’s true RE Dyche’s longevity at Burnley, but being sacked doesn’t make you a bad manager (or someone we should avoid) is my point.

Marco Silva had a really bad reputation after Everton, but is now doing great with Fulham.

As someone else said, sometimes a manager does (and doesn’t) fit a club.

I’m not sure Marsch is what we need, but if he’s appointed he, in my mind, also fits the profile of someone who would stay with us if we go down, and while that’s not an ambitious view, I do think we need to be planning for that kind of manager who is here next season. The last thing we need is to be looking for another manager in the summer.
