I'm not at all sure of a reason for a Poch return. I get it re the emotional pull but honestly, from both his point of view especially, and ours there is no point in having such a dream.
On Marsch - I definitely saw an article recently where the headline basically suggested that the Leeds fans worship of Bielsa meant that Marsch would never have been given a fair shake. Granted their results under him weren’t amazing but they weren’t worse than Bielsa when he was sacked and some seem like they’d be happy to have him
It’s not so much who the next manager is going to be that is the main concern. It is the person choosing the next manager that is the biggest worry.
I'm fine with it if it's Marsch He had a good record at Salzburg, a reasonable record at Leipzig, and he wasn't awful at Leeds - kept them up and this season has had some bad luck with injuries. He certainly came in and made them more solid at the back after Bielsa left, and hasn't turned them into some dull-to-watch defence-only team (which I believe Benitez, Nuno etc. would do first up)
Even just from a PR point of view the hiring of Marsch would be utterly batshit. He will be on the back foot from day one in regards to the fans. How is any fan supposed to accept, in a relegation battle, the hiring of a manager who was deemed too **** for a club who is currently in a better position than you just last week? The first game under him will be filled with immense scrutiny and toxicity that it is not worth the hassle it will bring to the club. I just can not believe, even for this ****ing board, that they would make a choice THAT inept.
This really. I actually like Marsch and think he is a good manager who would get us playing some decent stuff. I also think we have a better side than Leeds so I could see him doing a better job here than he did there. However as you say the fact that he has just been binned by a relegation rival will not sit well with the fan base and if he doesn’t get off to a flyer then we will see similar reaction to Jones I would expect, and most likely mean we are looking for another manager in the summer
I've just looked back at last season. Marsch took over with 12 games to go, when they were two points above the bottom three. They finished three points above the bottom three. He won four of those 12 games, including wins against Watford and Norwich (both of whom went down without a fight). Such easy pickings don't exist this season. The other two wins were the last-day (and last-minute) win against Brentford, and 3-2 comeback (and last-minute) win vs Wolves (when Wolves battered them out of sight to go 2-0 up, only to then go down to 10 men and see Leeds storming back). It's not exactly award winning stuff. But hey, he knows how to beat a 10 man Wolves. So he's already better than Jones.
Evening guys. Leeds fan here. Just seen the link to Marsch and thought I'd pop in and have a read through your thoughts. Marschs problem was that he wasn't Bielsa and the Ted Lasso thing also stuck. He plays pretty much exactly like Hassenhutl so the squad might respond as they will know the system and he certainly gave us a bit of a bounce last season. His tactics are a bit naive but if you look past results the performances weren't the worst you could see. If you appoint him now, his second game would be at Elland Road a week on Saturday. That would be interesting. BTW, Gallardo won't come until he learns English unless he's just bullshitting us to fob us off.
Certainly impressive, given how detrimental it can be when the opposition go down to 10 men. You know, in terms of stuff.
TBF, I liked the way Leeds played under Marsch. They had an identity, they were aggressive and front footed and they went for it right up to the 98th minute. Going forwards they were potent but at the back I think he was hamstrung by poor players - firpo, Strujk, Koch. We need a new manager like yesterday and could do worse than Marsch as we have recently seen. Hopefully he'll be wise enough to see Bednarek for the problem that he is and not an experienced savior like others. Wouldn't be my first choice but neither would I judge him for his record at Leeds and I KNOW he'd be better than the last manager we had but probably not as fit.
Can he translate loses into wins? Though, if he does, I think we're safe ... Managerial Win % Derby 28.2% D.C. United 14.3%
The sad thing is that there is no one that would make me confident. Anyone being batted around is a risk, and there’s straight up bad choices (Stevie G in particular) I really wish we’d just have got Sean bloody Dyche. He was the safest pair of hands you could have found in the crisis we were in pre WC. Now we’ve either gotta resort to PL managers already sacked this season or a Europe risk and with that you don’t know if you’re getting a Poch or a Pellegrino. The third issue is that you want someone happy to stick around in the Championship and on that merit I’d take Bielsa.
