Indeed like with Jones, Ankersen could ignore the stats/tenure relating to Marcsh's higher profile stints as manager.

Ah, he wasn't successful there because... fZ(z)=12π−−√exp{−z22} ,or whatever

Or maybe Ramus' digits have been singed a bit?

Yep, SR ****ed up big time. I’m still in shock tbh; what a **** show they’ve sold us.

But didn't he just lose 7 of 8 matches like someone else we know? It would be madness to employ him but this is SR in charge.

    I go
I had the feeling that he was disliked from the word go, not because of his reputation, but because he wasn't one of the "names" that people wanted.

Yeah Jones had no leeway with the fans. I think the majority were unimpressed but willing to give him some time. That time was waaay shorter than most other managers would’ve got who the fans were relatively happy about with the appointment. He basically was done after the Brighton game in a lot of fans eyes

I don't think he was disliked at all. I think there was apprehension and a sense of trepidation, but no active dislike and the majority were willing to give him a chance.

I didn’t dislike him at first. I just didn’t think he was anywhere near good enough for Southampton.

which turned out to be 100% correct.

I didn't dislike him at all, thought he would have been something new and refreshing, sadly it didn't work out, but social media was as much to blame for his exit along with his inept tactics.

At the end yep. But certainly not at the start and certainly not after his first game. He was given a chance and was only afforded the toxicity once it was clear he was miles out of his depth and coming across a twat.

We are a patient fanbase, far more patient than most. Which made it even more impressive how quickly fans turned.

No, social media was not to blame for his exit. The fact he’s a terrible manager at this level is solely to blame.

Mods: Any chance you could add "Upgrade on Jones" and "Better than Jones" to the swear filter?

Doesn't need to be said, given that my cat* would fulfil both criteria.

    DAILY ECHO QUOTES
    A767 10th November 2022 8:20 am

User ID: 117650 I hope that it is proven wrong - but by everything that I have read about his teams' playing style it won't be long before the fans turn on him too. I would also question his influence when he has never played at this level. I'd be happy to be wrong on this, and hope that the club and fans give him time.

    George Lawrence 10th November 2022 8:41 am

User ID: 1994330 I actually feel sorry for NJ. I think he either has completely underestimated the scale of the task in front of him or has failed to be reflective of how his own experience equips him adequately for survival in the Premier League. Im interviewing candidates tomorrow for a managerial position - Im looking for more than just enthusiasm and personal attributes but also there has to be evidence of past achievement and experience being relevant. This, I believe, is true for all managers/leaders. I just dont see how he has the grounding to make a success of this and Stoke is a huge red flag. Like others, I hope Im wrong.

Mr. Profit of Rage 10th November 2022 8:50 am

User ID: 3800529 Semmens hired him. You know - the one who HAS TO dutifully travel in luxury and watch Saints suffer like the rest of the faithful fans . So out of touch, that one. But that's a different story. Chances are, he'll fail and we'll all be moaning about losing at home to a poor championship side, this time next season. But give him a chance.

    saintmatt41 10th November 2022 9:44 am

User ID: 1146192 He is 49! Lost for words. What a shocking choice. No top flight experience as a coach or player. This will be our last premiership season for a long long time. But that doesn't matter. SR will probably bank decent money when they flog our best players after relegation. With those funds maybe they could buy some other football clubs. That would be great wouldn't it!

    SaintsinStripes 10th November 2022 8:57 am

User ID: 594484 Unbelievable awful appointment. Just when we need an experienced, respected, manager not just to get the team playing, but to give everyone a moral boost, Sports Republic get in this Jones fella. Prepare for Championship or worse.

It's a pity so many negatives were proved to be right?

Any manager that lets his team lose to ten men should not be allowed to call himself a manager

I don't see any hate in there. Just apprehension (understandable) but respectful enough.

"Hate" was too strong a term, but there was little evidence that anyone thought he could do the job. Give him a chance was the call, he had the chances but things never went right from the start, not all his fault either. Some still think Ralph could have done the job had he been given the strikers that all we called for last summer, hindsight is a wonderful thing. It still remains be careful of what you wish for, it could still get worse, if the right decisions aren't made with some alacrity but with due diligence.

There’s a difference between thinking he was bad or bizarre appointment in the first place and not liking him. That came not even because of the **** football but the **** ‘stuff’ that came out his mouth, which coupled with the **** football is obviously not going to be a hit. I also think the vast majority voiced their negativity at his appointment before moving on to ‘okay he’s here now, let’s give him a chance, let’s see what he can do’ attitude. That was the majority of fans despite their reservations. Nobody judged him on the Liverpool game since it came so soon after his appointment. This is on Ankersen for hiring him in the first place and it’s on Jones for being ****. It’s not on the fans. Only thing I would say is he had a very short rope with fans but then that’s the nature of the position we were in when he was appointed. He had to turn it around quickly or we were basically giving up our position in the PL, which has sadly played out. Extra frustrating because it seemed very avoidable, but here we are.
