Mildly interesting snippet I heard on R5 Live this morning. Bristol City haven't been awarded a penalty since November 2021. Well, I thought I thought it was worthy of note...

Shame Bournemouth couldn't hold on to put TWS in the bottom three ahead of their second cup final in a week tomorrow
It seems they don’t know their own rules, they’ve had to reissue the charges as they included six charges that didn’t apply. You’d expect them to at least get the legal details correct before announcing the charges.
It seems VAR forgot to draw lines in the Arsenal v Brentford game. It also turns out it’s not the first time this season, as it happened in the Arsenal v Liverpool game. Football was dodgy before VAR, now it’s still dodgy. I’m generally getting bored with sports right now, a lot seems to have the technology to get the right outcome, but due to humans running it, it’s not working & the constant media saturation, either live or on the sports channels, just highlights it even more. It’s not just football, NFL referees watching a short burst of action, has replays in every game, yet still get calls wrong. NBA, same as NFL. For me, it’s getting to the, “what’s the point?” Moment. Nowadays, it’s just all about making money & people will lose interest if this continues.
I was all for VAR when it was first introduced as I could see how similar technology had improved decision making in cricket but I'm afraid that in football it's just rendered the game a farce. The notion of the offside rule coming down to the measuring of millimetres isn't really understanding why the law was introduced in the first place and the utter inconsistency of applying the handball rule is sucking the joy and spontaneity completely out of the game. Goal line technology - that works. Everything else consign to the bin.
Although I was always against it I agree entirely Goal line tech is superb, and if it was available and not used that would be stupid. VAR is a nonsense. Bad decisions remain and it’s killed spontaneity too to the point it wouldn’t be worth celebrating a goal where it’s used, until the review.
Var would be fine and a great addition if it was used in a good way it should be used to replay an incident. eg. did player A strike player B? did player A touch the ball and/or did he take out the man did player A dive in the box? or was there clear contact offside should have a degree of error.. was player A 2 yards offside? or was he offside by a toe? offsides like a toe nail or a hair splinter should be left, just rule the clear and obvious offsides 1 yard and further if you need to draw some lines to pixel perfect amounts to determine if he's offside or not, then that should be left alone
I always liked how when watching Sky, you could see the cheats clearly, the offsides immediately clear, the errors that the refs made pointed out within seconds, so VAR should have been Equally easy to see all these things happening, but no, they come up with something that just doesn’t do what it says on the tin. If they’re employing incompetent people to do the job so they can get rid of it & just get the refs to make controversial decisions on the pitch again, so the “right” teams win, then they’re doing a great job!
most of those examples are still too much for me. I could maybe be convinced about a check for a penalty which had been awarded, just to see if someone dived, but that's it
It’s tough either way to get it right. I would reduce some of the things VAR is used for but where do you draw the line. I still remember screaming at the ref during the England/France match for missing obvious stuff especially the 2nd pen when I think it was Mount who got clobbered right under the refs nose. He didn’t give it but VAR did then Kane missed. Cue my further melt down.
Just seen on BBC news sport bit that cheating has arrived in the ladies game of football. After a vigorous tackle a man utd player pushed a Tottenham player on the shoulder, over falls the player holding her face getting the man und player sent off.
