Evening mate. This is why I was so insistent on you naming a replacement a few weeks ago when you were calling for Marsch's head. We aren't getting a top top guy like Poch or Tuchel. All the good managers in the next tier down are already in jobs. That leaves out of work managers (Lampard, Gerrard, Benitez types) or managers picked from lesser leagues (just like we did with Marsch). I'm not saying sacking Marsch was wrong. Just saying there has to be a plan for afterwards as its not really flooded with good managers at the moment as the club are finding out.
The media's job is sometimes to create the news though Rich. Let's see who we appoint before saying whether they were first choice or not.
Aye, but the consensus (worked it out eventually) aren't employing him - it's the board. It would be ridiculous if they assumed he wasn't interested. They have a duty to at least approach him imo.
Poch is waiting for a big Champions League gig. Not a club fighting relegation after being largely irrelevant for the last 20 years. We aren't a big draw to the big name managers as much as we'd like to think we are. We could ask though i suppose. Heck, we might have done already.
He should still be approached & the result communicated to the fans. The board would have been applauded for at least trying to get someone world-reknowned. Wasn't it the same assumption with Bielsa until Orta slipped into geat?
What we have shown though is we're right up there with the other 10 or so clubs who are willing to spend good money on decent talent. Granted not in the £60M ++ range yet so you're right to say that rules out some of the big names, however there's still a pool of coaching talent across Europe and South America that would fancy their chances with our budget.
Then **** them, they don't deserve the privileged to be part of this great club of ours, plus, they can only buy success
If our first choice is Iraola or Gallardo but can’t have him until June, then why not ask Poch to do it in the interim whilst waiting for his next gig. Big bonus for keeping us up as well as enhancing his reputation?
My first thought on that is, he'd think that's beneath him. If we're going down that road it would more likely be Benitez
So we can’t get him full time so you’re suggesting we give him a part time gig. Interesting. Somehow can’t see him biting
I’d have sacked Jesse before the World Cup. The fact we never, the fact we allowed him the entire transfer window then sacked him without a replacement in place or a plan, well I’m amazed. When they sacked him, and Radz said expect white smoke tonight the following day, well I thought great, someone has been sounded out and set to join. Of course I’d hoped for Corberan, Kompany or Poch (hope and expected a little different) but we threw large sums at the January window so I thought it would be a huge gamble unless “great” was ready to step in. I think it’s odd logic, at a time when points are vital, that anyone is willing to welcome another overseas inexperienced coach who won’t have a clue about our players.
Evening mate I did name mine, Dyche, some hate that thought but I named one. I’d still have Dyche over Gallardo, Slot and Iraola I’d still have Corberan but we only offered him an 18 month contract if reports are to be believed, I’d also go in big for Kompany The thing is, I’m just a Leeds fan, I’m not paid the thousands Victor is to make the crucial calls, I’d have sacked Jesse long long ago, I’d have also ensured we had a replacement lined up if I were in Ortas position Orta and Radz got too cocky too early, they thought a replacement was there for the taking and they’ve screwed up over this. But… I’m still happier with the U21 guy watching the ship than having Jesse here. My problem is settling for worse than 3rd choice, I haven’t an issue with the U21 guy remaining until the right guy is available
Because if Poch gets a relegation on his CV he is finished as an option to the very big clubs he wants to manage. He's right to not touch us with a barge pole.
As opposed to Armas, who’s been here one day and the U21 coach who’ve I’ve no idea how much he’s been involved with the first team. Totally agree with you that I thought we had a replacement lined up. Like someone else posted, perhaps Radz arrogantly thought Corboran (or whoever was first choice) would just agree to take the job.
And as OLOF quite rightly said, he’s not confident in his coaching abilities in taking over a squad most pundits say is good enough to stay up with the right man in charge. And of course that offer may never come his way. The longer you’re out the quicker you’re forgotten.
We'll never agree on Dyche. He's a decent fit for Everton. We have a different squad and a different way of playing. I'm not saying it couldn't work, just that it would be more difficult here than possibly others in and around us. I suppose we can agree that when Marsch was sacked it might have been sensible to have some kind of concrete replacement ready to go.
Not interested in Poch personally as he's vastly overrated in my opinion. Whatever you do don't believe any bullshit news reports ok
The U21 guy put out a team, in their rightful positions, with a tactic that nearly beat an inform Man U team, we took a point nobody expected. Armas knows the PL more than the three who show no interest So yes as opposed to coaches who have zero idea over this squad
I’m not trying to change your mind on Dyche though mate, just pointing out I named one when requested. Question though, if he was still unemployed would you take him right now today if he’d agreed a rolling contract to the end of the season. Would he really have less chance of keeping us up than the situation we find ourselves in tonight I personally feel he’d be better than Jesse (not difficult) and better than Iraola, Gallardo and Slot at keeping us up from today to season end I did say though, I felt Armas was employed to be the safety stop gap if we lost a few more games, nearly right, I just didn’t think it would be the U21 guy If the board want Iraola or Gallardo and they’re willing to join in the summer fine, they’ll have an entire preseason and transfer window to prepare, if they’re Bielsa level they’ll start watching a few recordings of us in action too
