We've had that game in hand hanging over us for ages. In truth most of us thought it would be worthless anyway so that point last nights a huge bonus. For all the Marsch criticisms, his stamp is on most of our recent transfers and they're a resounding success. The USA midfield pairing could be pivotal in our survival. Well done all especially for the passion shown on the field last night. Really looking forward to Sunday. Our fans need to scare the **** out of them

YEP now saying there are still 4 candidates on the list including Iraola but Rayo playing hard ball, so far. They also say Slot is on the list but no mention of the other 2 maybe we should do a list of coaches we don’t want
    • Benitez
    • Gerrard
    • Lampard
    • Husentutle
    • Smith
    • Bruce
    • Big Sam

You make some fair points here Risty. There's no point in panicking over 3rd or 4th choices. I'm sure they'd sounded out a few people but it's disappointing that they sacked the guy without having his replacement nailed on... it feels a bit like those transfer windows where the red carpet is rolled out for the new signing... and then cindarella doesn't come to the ball.

Due to a domestic mini-crisis i wasn't able to watch the game so have only seen the highlights. I'm sure the brains on the forum can elucidate further on exactly what we did differently... those that were un-related to playing a team that came to attack rather than park the bus.

From the highlights I saw, the takeaways were ironically both goals were classic marsch ball. Team stacked narrow to once side, aggressive press with numerous players swarming the ball carrier and quick direct passing.

When asked in his post match interview what we did different Gnonto replied 'nothing really'

Thought Koch needed to attack the ball for rashford's goal, so he at least bumped him if he couldn't beat him to it. Although he may have been unsighted, Mes probably won't be happy with the 2nd, not sure what he was doing for the Garnacho chance when he rushed out of his goal either but redeemed himself with a quality save at the end from Varane's header. Hey you can pick any goal apart defensively and sounds like we dug in when under the cosh in the second half. Disappointing to blow a 2 goal lead but a great point.

He never walked out, Chelsea asked permission to speak with him:

On 8 September 2022, Brighton announced that Potter and five members of his backroom staff would depart the club for Chelsea. Chelsea reportedly paid Brighton around £16m for Potter and an additional £5.5m to £6.5m in compensation for his backroom staff.

Also a little different 6 games into a season, not that it matters because Brighton gave permission, Iraola his club have refused unless compensated, the question was what stops him from Quitting

Ok, semantics. Potter wanted to leave as soon as he got a sniff that Chelsea were interested and Chelsea would have got their way whether Brighton liked it or not. I'm sure Leeds would have asked for permission, and Iraola now knows we want him. So if he wants to come, he will. Same as any manager moving clubs.

No because if his club say no, he would need to quit and break his contract

I said I admire those saying no not mid season, I wouldn't want anyone who is willing to walk out on his club or quit on them. If the clubs says yes go and speak with them and we will have compensation that's different.

I get what you're saying, but I suspect Potter would have said to Brighton that Chelsea want me, I want to speak to them. Clubs don't want unhappy managers any more than they want unhappy players.

Anyway, anyone know how long Iraola has left on his current contract ? Maybe his club are holding out for as much compensation as they can.

Jammy Jnr pointed out this morning how players like Harrison actually had space to operate in (first half especially) and he was right. When Jack picked the ball up inbetween the lines he could drive himself or there was Gnonto one side, Summerville available for the long diagonal or Bamford pulling away from him through the middle.

Also when we broke we attacked with our front 4 whilst generally keeping the other 6 in a defensive shape should they counter. This was at 0-1 of course so a sensible approach given the game situation.

Firpo was disciplined in keeping his distances from Wober so to not allow the ball inside and force them to pass out wide to the Scum winger. Then when the ball did go out wide he still kept the shape rather than charging out to close down and leaving us exposed. Ayling really struggled with this on his side as the distances between him and Koch were too great and Scumchester repeatedly exploited this with Koch belatedly closing it down on many occasions.

Just an all round better shape with a bit more width but obviously not that different to what the players have been doing all season. At the end of the day it was the players who made the best of what we had and worked really hard to get a positive result.

It is a fine line isn't it... you can argue that a manager saying that he'd like to go... and his club then haggling for compensation... is quitting.

However, if the club are actually happy to let him go if they're compensated then you can't blame the manager - if he thinks is current club are more interested in the cash than him.

Seeing as you just get a load of smoke and mirrors and spin after the event its not always clear exactly how things played out.

Not sure why you would want Potter at Leeds anyway tbh. This squad of players is in no way suited to Potterball, so it would need a complete overhaul, and there’s no time.

Let’s get a coach in that suits the style of play the squad has been assembled for. And until one becomes available, stick with the three coaches who were in charge last night.

Thanks for the permission and much appreciated.

So do you think it was the right decision to get rid of Marsche ?

And if so how about the timing, should we have done it sooner for example ?

Yeah i thought koch was poor not challenging the dinner lady. Going to need another massive effort on Sunday. Hopefully we give a couple of theirs a good kicking.

Fair enough Jambo thanks for the explanation... can't comment as i haven't seen it but will look forward to seeing if it plays out similarly on Sunday. My take in general this season is we've often looked better offensively against the good sides because there is often more space to exploit playing sides with attacking intent... we were a threat all game at anfield, and spurs. Last night's result/performance didn't surprise me - Sunday will be interesting, I imagine they're more likely to sit and counter, which typically has been our achilles heel.
