Problem is we don’t know the truth. If we all liked Jones and we were winning games - and Orsic posted that - then Orsic would be the prick.
The issue is that NJ, outside of that one positive week, has not made a single change on the pitch performance wise. The same issues present under Ralph are still there. I genuinely believe the fan reception would actually be okay or at least we’d all be a bit more understandable if since the Everton win there was a clear progression of system or style. But there hasn’t been. Hell, even the one game we did win since Everton, we squeaked by against a 23rd Championship side with a one goal margin. The hard truth is that there is zero progression on the pitch, not even a faint one where you can say “well the results aren’t there but you can see a clear style of play coming in”. The guy is still bringing on ****ing Walcott when we’re a goal down. In the words of a player I would very much love to have at our disposal right now “it’s a joke”.
Disagree. It's pretty well-known around here that I loathe Jose Mourinho. I loathed Mourinho even when he won things. I can't stand managers who spend all of their time telling people how good they are. If you were that good, you wouldn't need to tell people. Jones combines Jose Mourinho's petulance and insecure ego-projection with the managerial skills of Manuel Pellegrino. It's not a good combination!
This is brilliant from Glen. http://leagueoneminus10.blogspot.com/2023/02/the-secret-diary-of-nathan-jones-aged.html
That reads so much like another former Luton manager...Joe Kinnear*. I didn't really make the connection between them until now. It's not a good connection. *Joe Kinnear in his managerial days. I have a fair bit more sympathy for Kinnear as Newcastle's DoF given that he was diagnosed with dementia not long after.
The situation for Leeds this week shows the real reason why Jones is still manager. Leeds are now casting around for a manager and it looks like they are down to their 3rd or 4th choices - or are going to make a snap decision on someone they only really considered this week.
If they get down to their 9th or 10th choice, they might even end up with someone of Jones' calibre! (Seriously, let Selles manage if there isn't a readily-available option)
A month ago, when this was clear, we might have got Sean Dyche. Now we will end up with Pulis, Bruce or Fat Sam!
As with all such things, the fanbase (us) only get to see/hear about the publicly available situation: Saints are performing badly, our latest manager has not visibly improved things, and is (currently) unapologetic about his performance. It is entirely possible that, akin to an iceberg, the true situation is far larger/more complicated than we can see, and the board are working very hard to recruit a different person, but will not go public with anything (sacking Jones/announcing a new appointment) until the ink is dry on the new contract. In an alternative universe, the board are all running around like headless chickens, and Saints are screwed. I suspect that the truth is somewhere between the two scenarios.
This probably true, but why haven't the Leeds board immediately brought in Pulis, Bruce or Fat Sam? Either their board is casting their net wider (so will our board be doing the same), or Pulis, Bruce and Fat Sam have all turned Leeds down, as they are waiting for a call from Semmens.
when I said it was all my fault and I accept sole responsibility I meant to mean it but it’s important to understand that it’s only my fault because other people keep messing it up and Lavia had a bad game. So, yeah, Sorry for the misunderstandings.
only if NJ hadn’t been banging on about the need for experience and attacking threat in the days before we signed an attacking, experienced player. Even if we liked Jones -hah! - there’s a disconnect there.
