Nathan Jones essentially has the same task that Steve Cooper had at Forest at the beginning of the season. He basically has to get a whole bunch of strangers playing together. Of his first 10 games, Cooper only earned 5 points. They looked piss-poor. Now they're flying. Dyche at Everton, well, I'm sorry to say, but Everton are not a bottom-3 squad. They're a mid-table squad comfortably. I can't say with confidence that Dyche would have had the same immediate impact with our players. Southampton was a bloody hard job to take on. However, Jones' attitude is shocking, and if the training pitch bust-up rumours are true, then that's concerning. But it's good to know that there is still some passion at the club, I guess. Jones needs to flex his famous interpersonal skills to get the disillusioned players back on board.
Do you really think that about Everton? I look at their squad and with the exception of Pickford, Tarkowski and DCL (who is always injured) I don’t really see anyone else any better than what we have. Onana looks a talent but don’t think he is much to shout about right now. Coleman is ancient, Mykolenko is terrible, Coady is the English Lyanco, Gana is past it, McNeil has similar output to Ely, Iwobi, Maupay, Dross Townsend I’ve said before that if you were to take any 2 teams from the bottom 6/7 and do a comparison (excluding Bournemouth) I think with virtually every team you would have a pretty even split when making a “best 11”. There really isn’t much in it.
I will post and contribute what I want. You can do the same. Free country and all that. At least my relegation thread was supposed to be a positive one, not like the doom mongering on every other thread.
It was a good try to lift the mood, just felt that the spirit of your post was being buried in gloom.
Yeah I do. Pickford England's no. 1, behind Tarkowski and Coady, two regular England squad members. Coady is far better than Lyanco, come on man ffs. Those three alone would improve our team immensely. Onana is top 4 quality, great player. Iwobi has had an excellent season. Gueye is still good, would take him over our DMs. Creatively I'd take McNeil and Gray over any of our creative players. DCL I don't rate all that much, so yeah, that's the weakness. Still better than Adams though.
True dat. I've just got to the point where I really don't care. If we go down, then so be it. The worst part will be the remainder of this season, but as soon as the fixture list and new kit come out for 23/24, we'll all be buzzing. And when we win the first game, it will be "f*ck the Premier League!"
If I were doing a combined team from us and Everton it would be something like Pickford KWP Tarkowski DCC/ABK Perraud Lavia Onana JWP Sulemana (unsure here as obviously just arrived but the fact they were after him as well would indicate they consider him at least as good as what they already have) Iwobi possibly, half a good season does not make up for years of garbage but we don’t have a standout either DCL so that would be a 6/5 split in our favour. If you wanted Coady as the other centre back then 6/5 in their favour, so yeah pretty even
Pickford KWP Tarkowski Coady Perraud/Mykolenko (To be honest I haven't watched Everton enough to know who is better here) Lavia Onana JWP Gray Iwobi DCL Changes I'd make in bold. Only 3 definite Saints players for me. Too early to say on Sulemana.
I hope they are preparing now, it'd be a gross dereliction of duty if they weren't. I don't accept we are as good as down, with 51 points to play for. Even if being a bit of a shambles on and off the pitch won't help.
Hope for the best prepare for the worst, I don't doubt plans are in hand. The reality is we're by no means good as down, we're not cut adrift and with the investment over the last transfer windows are well in with a chance of survival. There are one or two issues to be sorted as have been pointed out here and elsewhere. As far as I'm concerned we're up until we're down with no mathematical chance.
He's here and he's staying for now. All there is left is to support the team, him and SR. If we go down, we go down. And if we do go down then in the Championship Saints will play football every week and we can be just as excited, disappointed, happy and sad as in the PL. Life's too short as it is, try to enjoy whatever comes along. Vin
When at 49 you get told by your cardiologist you need a pacemaker or you’re be dead…..football/Premier league/Championship becomes irrelevant….so f*** it,crack on and don’t worry about a f****** thing other than breathing
Agreed with the two above. Life is short and happiness is what and when you make it. If you choose to be angry and sad, then you will be. If you choose to look on the bright side, things do suddenly look brighter in the world. If we go down ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - we will survive. Oh, as long as we know how to cheer, I know we'll stay alive, we've got all our life to live, and we've got all our cheers to give, and we'll survive, we will survive, hey hey
Hey let’s be honest we’re all disappointed about what is happening at Saints,we’ve all been through this before and surely will again at some point. Let’s be honest we’ve been **** for years.76 I was too young to really understand what was happening as I was born in late 72 and apart from the odd good season we’ve been **** every year so we know what we’re going to get,it’s only our own frustrations that get to us with our own expectations of another season. So whether we go down this season or next or the one after we will get relegated at some point because we’re Saints. They will still be here no matter what division. Life’s far too short to be worrying about what division were in.
