Sullivan wasn't good for us imho...thought Keller did well...Robbo was good but was too often beaten by long shots and had a terrible run of form at the end of his time with us. Gomes was weird ... made some horrific mistakes on a regular basis but his performance against Arsenal in 2010 when we beat them 2-1 at WHL (our first league win over them in over a decade) was the best goalkeeping performance I have ever seen. He made three world class saves that night...he tipped a point-blank Judas header onto the bar, saved a shot from RVP from about 8 yards out and best of all saved an RVP free kick. But he was a massive disappointment overall. I remember him saving a penalty v Blackpool only to give another one away 20 seconds later...just about sums him up tbh
Sullivan was good for us in the sense that he wasn't Ian Walker Although that period where we were habitually signing Wimbledon players (Sullivan, Chris Perry, Oyvind Leonhardsen, Ben ****ing Thatcher) is a period that really needs to be pointed at whenever one of the mardy Twitter feeds talks about us lacking ambition in the transfer market
His 2nd half performance in the 3-2 win at their place was top notch as well. He and Gallas were so important that day.
Ben Thatcher...what a gift from bloke in a coat Pretty certain he was at City and ****ed up Pedro Mendez when he was at Portsmouth
We shafted Robbo a bit too prematurely in my opinion. Was a fan favourite and good keeper but that bad spell seemed to just kill his spell with us where he may have just regained his form the following season. The decision to can him looked even poorer considering how bad Gomes was, that Arsenal performance was excellent as you say but he probably cost us more than he saved us overall, very weird keeper in general, made the hard look easy but the easy look impossible. Friedel was an excellent signing, gave us stability and then the perfect handover to Lloris when he joined. Hugo then took keeping standards to new levels here, few shaky spells and the occasional clanger but was world class in his prime and not only saved us countless times but carried us for a good 18 months/ 2 years, not too dissimilar to how Kane and Son have carried us the last few years.
Billy Gallas, the only man who’s played for Arsenal and Chelsea that could walk down Tottenham High Road and be bought pints by the home fans! . He really was immense in that NLD, the slap to Nasri capped it off.
What was the game where Gomes pulled of a blinding save to then throw the ball in to the net seconds later also that **** up at old Trafford with Nani He was also made of poppadoms with the odd injuries he go
Chelsea? Didn't cross the line. We lost 2-1 and their other goal was yards offside. Typical of some of the robberies we've had at that ****hole.
I remember that but was thinking of another game , sure we were at home and it was down the park lane end and Redknapp made one of his quips about him
It was Chelsea away, the same game when Sandro banged one in from 30 yards and got a bollocking from Harry for being too far forward.
