In the 14.05 Southwell, Ardmayle is 3lb clear top rated but has the "X" indicating poor jumper. However, apart from his debut, he has never fallen. He was pulled up twice in 2021 prior to wind surgery. His last 3 runs have resulted in a win (Ardmayle back over fences, perhaps benefited from a first-time tongue strap and finally took advantage of his tumble down the handicap, a rare good round of jumping coming in handy; disputed lead, jumped soundly, led 3 out, stayed on; he'll obviously remain potentially well treated), a 2nd (Ardmayle ran creditably, just bumping into an unexposed one half his age; made running, headed approaching 3 out (mistake there), already firmly second best when not fluent last 2) and a 4th (Ardmayle wasn't disgraced after 8 months off; prominent, not quicken 2 out.). C&D winner. Interesting change of jockey too. Looks like Southwell is his favourite course. Showing at 10/1. Not suggesting he's a good ew bet but it does look interesting
Emily Roebling 6/1 - Fairyhouse 12.45. Has the long odds on Mullins fave to take down but I'm not overly convinced on that one at all and at the price in this small field, I think it offers a bit of value to side with Emily on the off chance the fave doesn't run up to scratch. Poor card overall at Fairyhouse with not a whole lot to get excited about. There is one in the maiden hurdle, The Coleen, runs at 2.50, who is an Estidhkaar gelding. It isn't one that would immediately catch the attention really but for the fact when Danny Mullins is riding for J P Flavin that they can often court support when fancied so I am interested to see if any market support comes in favour of him given it is such a weak maiden race. Best of luck anyone having a punt.
I really couldn't recommend a bet STH. It's just one of those where, if it did win, we could look back and say there were enough pointers, but I wouldn't be claiming any credit if that did happen
The roast dinners at Ludlow will be going to waste again today, the frozen ground has taken its toll on Ludlows card. So its just Super Sunny Southwell for the UK jumps racing punters. Joy.
Liz Doyle trained as well, she can produce them first time up but I don't think she's as prolific as she once was.
A couple of my choices for today were at Ludlow and one has been pulled from Southwell , so just the one for me and a small bet as it is a tight call . 135 quiet call 11/2 on hills but showing 5s on atr
Certainly one to avoid but maybe Angels Landing can produce an improved performance on this good ground in the (14:40) at Southwell, a Class-5 Mares' Handicap Hurdle over a distance just short of 2m. Got stuck in the mud LTO 25-days ago at Warwick. Charlie Todd rides for the Ian Williams yard. A very fair best price of 9/1 available with Bet 365 at time of writing. Although only 7-runners, E/W best option at these odds.
Had to go to Ludlow this morning and passed through course at 8.30. Not a cover in sight and no chance of racing. Annual membership £235. Am almost certainly going to join up when I (semi) retire in May. A decent roast would certainly clinch it
