Our problem isn’t not being able to attract anyone, it’s knowing when to ignore many of those who want the job. I love Corberan but it would be a gamble, but maybe less of a gamble than Marsch? We will also struggle to convince the likes of Poch or Tuchel to do the job, great if we could but unlikely. So we have to shop in a place where a young coach with massive potential is doing big things in a top league like Iraola. Has a top top player and lists one of the great delights of his career playing under Bielsa. He learnt his coaching under him and when he retired from playing for some of the biggest clubs he started coaching. He has been a breath of fresh air in Spain and took a lowly club up into La Liga and got them to midtable from nowhere. This season he has his club in the top 4 playing expansive exiting football and defending well. There are a few more coaches with that type of record in Spain, Italy etc so it can be done, but we do not want the likes of failed Gerrard/Lampard or Bruce, Big Sam. This needs a newer, better schooled coach with lots of upside
Corboran would be the emotional appointment, Bielsa links and all that. He's done well since he left (if you don't count that little Greek hiccup) but with zero top flight experience would be a big gamble, one I don't think the board would dare take. One for the future perhaps. Gerrard - I have a horrible feeling the club might go for someone like him, though God knows why, but he's a "name" that might appease the fans (temporarily). Again it would be a gamble, can we afford another roll of the dice ? (BTW - Lampard, for ****'s sake please NOOOOOO !!!!) Andoni Iraola would seem a likely candidate. Young coach, playing exciting football and got his team's punching well above their weight in Spain's top division. This is the type of guy we tend to appoint (i.e foreign, fans know nothing about him until Doc fills us in). Would still be a gamble, though I'd say a better one than the Corboran or Gerrard etc. Otherwise, will the board (and I'm leaning heavily towards the 49ers influence here) go all out and get one of the big guns in (Poch ? Tuchel ?). We spent big in the transfer market, we went all in to get Bielsa, so who knows maybe they'll really go for it. Either way, I'll have no nails or hair left by the weekend.
Heard yesterday that Peter Lowey was flown in to be part of the Bielsa sacking team. In which case would like to know If Eric has any views on his relationship with the Aussie Greek guy at Celtic. I know Lowey was involved with Australian FA etc, so would he have a preference for poaching the Celtic guy?
Leeds: Patrick Bamford a 'joke' for criticising Jesse Marsch tactics - Chris Sutton Chris Sutton ??? Loud mouth Shearers mate.
Is that the bloke who had us as favourite's to go down. Another dick who has too much to say about us.
Press conference is live and skubala would not comment on who is avaliable and just said usual long termers still out. Said they want to have a session with the SQUAD and work on a gameplan.
Don’t take this the wrong way, but this is just articles in the media saying this and all quoting 1 maybe 2 sources. None of us had a clue who he was before yesterday. I looked him up on Wiki and thought I hope not, nowhere near enough experience.
From his comments it makes one wonder if he even saw the interview I did see the interview and saw a player propped pissed off with how they were being told to play, his thoughts were the same a mine. My thoughts went back to playing kids football at school, teacher used to kick the ball onto the pitch and you had 20 kids running round out of control all trying to get a kick Anyway I don’t take any notice of the likes of Sutton
Slightly different slant from Popey so let’s hope we get someone who’s employed as the likes of Poch, Tuchel are not likely although Gallardo is out of work?
Afternoon all, Felt for Jesse but pleased to see him go, just wasn't up to the level needed. Personally i would be more than happy to see Corberan come in. Nothing to do with the bielsa links but for what he has done since leaving. The other option is to go out and spend big on a big name. This worked with bielsa and maybe the board will realise that. Would love to see poch. Don't believe in going back but would love to 3 what bielsa could do with this current crop of players.
Let's just fix one thing here ... Armas is NOT taking charge, not even close ... he's assisting Skubala ... the reason he's been kept on this week is because of his work at Scum and his supposed "inside knowledge" on their players ... Armas will be gone by Monday
TBH, if Bamford was criticising Marsch (and you can read that interview a few ways) he was opening himself up for a critic to have a pop at him. The manager rarely criticises specific players, and in return the players don't criticise the manager. Otherwise its a slippery slope.
