    1) Glenn Morris - His vital saves in the first half ensured that we went in level at the break
    2) Shaun Williams - Obviously scored the winner, but was also controlling our midfield. Revitalised since the Leicester game
    3) Max Ehmer - Some crucial defensive work in the first half again helped ensure that we went into half-time at 0-0

    1. Glen Morris - brilliant saves
    2. Dom Jefferies - particularly good in the first half.
    3. Nichols - great work ethic and 'movement' -- great technique for the shot which led to the goal.
There wasn't a lot between Nichols and the rest of the team... If they all replicate the 2nd half performance, I'd have no problem in keeping the same personnel for the remaining games.

Bit weird how I'm going to predict on this one, in that I'm going to select the players that kept competitive in our first half performance, rather than the improved second half...

    1. McKenzie
    2. Jefferies
    3. MacDonald

All based on individual work ethic. Great saves by Morris which the previous two have highlighted. Also unusual for me not to pick the goal scorer, but again having seen Patchy select him, he's not been left out of this weeks points.

    Williams
    Ehmer
    Nichols
To be fair again no one had a bad game.
McKenzie was very good as right back. Don't think he would get in team as an midfielder though although need his long throws

    1. Ehmer - Won everything he needed to, was being more vocal and commanding the defence alongside a shaky Masterson.
    2. Nichols - What a player we've got here, incredibly intelligent on and off the ball and quite frankly a joy to watch.
    3. Morris - Made some incredibly vital saves and put his body on the line to keep a clean sheet.

Also a special mention to Olli Hawkins who seemed to win 9 balls out of 10 in the air. We didn't look as competitive after he came off injured and let's hope it's nothing serious and he's not out too long.

geoff - I think you have confused gioblues (and maybe others ) - do you mean MacDonald and Masterson (( although he apparently, was 'shaky' ))

If you watched him closely for the first 40 mins he certainly resembled a player that hadn't played much football recently and your best mate Max dug him out of a hole a couple of times. 2nd half he was much more solid.

    I
I have watched all the players closely -- in the few thousand Gills games I have attended... You will note that I did not include Masterson in my top 3... I did note 'mistakes' in various players - but - they are to be expected - otherwise they wouldn't be playing in League 2... I included Ehmer in my overall praise for the performance - particularly in the 2nd half.....

In my 'bigger picture'. I awarded my placements based on the contribution towards the outcome - but didn't think Ehmer stood-out as much as my choices (( based on the effort by each player - and not just on one incident. )) ... Morris didn't do a lot after those two brilliant saves - but - without them, I suspect Gills would not have recovered, and got even a point from the game.

Jefferies also stood-out in the first half (( despite his awful miss -))-- which is an example of a mistake that I can forgive - if the player's effort has generally been 'good.' .. and I felt his contribution was instrumental in keeping the score at 0-0 for half time. In the 2nd half, Ehmer was as good as everyone else - except Nichols - whose effort was superb - and whose technique led to Williams having an easy 'tap-in.'

My comments are always based on fairness on the day !.. I will give due praise - such as I have with Morris in recent games..... and I would love for Morris to retain his standards for a long time to come -- but -- my overall assessment, will consider all past performances - and long term effectiveness...... an almost 100% waste of time was J.E.Thomas !! and yet, in his first two games (( both v Southend )), he was brilliant. I couldn't wait for his next game - but- what a pile of poo he turned into ! ........

Therefore - with regards to Morris - his age does him no favours - and, in the Summer, I would expect Gills to look at other goalkeepers.... With regards to Ehmer, I am really happy that he has improved (( along with all the squad .)) I won't be surprised if he is given another year (( if he continues his current trend. )) ...

BUT - I won't change my overall assessment of Ehmer - based on his time at Bristol Rovers and the 18 months before Galinson...... And, I will even say that Ehmer rode his luck on the back of Egan, then Zakuani, then Tucker (( who he nearly destroyed by his example. ) Ehmer went to Gas - where Joey Barton told some truths about Ehmer - who then came to Gills for back-to-back relegations - which was heading for a hat-trick before Christmas - and yet, I am happy for Harris to reward current effort with an unchanged line-up at Mansfield -- before a different 'bigger picture' emerges.
..... perhaps I should try wearing blinkers .

So basically you don't think Ehmer should of played over 300 games for the Gills under all those managers who generally picked him over 90% of the time. Who's wearing the blinkers.

Based on the overall bigger picture - and not forgetting his achievement at Bristol Rovers, the answer is; No, I wouldn't have picked Ehmer (( unless it was my intention to build a team for relegation ))....

I am sure that Max is a nice person - but - that's where my sentimentality stops... Ehmer was the type of player that Gills could ( only ) afford under the last decade or so of the Scally regime -- so, my assessment, and any real criticism must be directed at Scally..... and judging by the affect on results and the attendances over the last 18 months before Christmas, things were going from bad to worse, towards oblivion for The Gills - and NOT just because of Ehmer.

Gills are in a totally different financial environment - and can, if needed, look to buy 'better' replacements... Since Galinson, I have only positive things to say about the improvement to all the squad ( maybe not Green.) -- includes Ehmer and Tutonda ( despite my thoughts about the need to review the fullback positions. ) ... And, I would be happy to keep the squad (( including Ehmer )) only if they maintain their improvements.... This would still mean that I sympathetically appreciate their individual and collective limitations - for which I would be happy to give further sentimentality...... but - fans shouldn't be expected to rely upon that sentimentality if we now have an owner who can be more 'engaged' with his pocket - for the Club rather than his bank balance.

...and, after 60 years of watching The Gills, travelling 100 miles - just for Home games, I don't think my 'sentimentality' and loyalty is in question -- and there's still plenty left for my beloved Gills.

It was difficult to choose the top 3 and I agree Ehmer and Mckenzie had good games but I felt for his first game back Masterton played well and just made us look more solid.

I just feel Ehmer is scapegoat for some fans whatever he does. Great example was last week when Masterson booted ball forward and ball went straight out. If Ehmer did that would have got the growns.
Again reason we were relegated was not because of Ehmer, more like we didn't score enough goals. The defense will always concede if they are defending for most of matches.
I understand that we will likely get money to spend on a better player now, but still think he can do a job if needed.
We will not see a Gillingham outfield play over 300/ 350 games for us again. He has his limitations but overall been a very solid player over the years under probably 7 managers. Don't care about his time at Bristol Rovers. Certainly don't care about thug Joey Barton.
