    ... the luckier I feel.

This all looks like another recipe for disaster with Methven and, most likely, the Dell boys loaning the purchase money then sitting back laughing. I'd feel sorry for Charlton supporters if they hadn't been such dicks at the World Cup, in France, and on the tube for their latest Wembley appearance.

Sunderland are ten times the club they currently are.

"Charlton Athletic are set for a £10 million buyout from a group led by former Sunderland co-owner Charlie Methven. Ex-Sunderland CEO Jim Rodwell was brought in as the new chief operating officer, with Andy Scott taking over the role of technical director and Ed Warrick appointed finance director.

Warrick and Methven are believed to be partners driving SE7 Partners, with Simon Lenagan also included in the group. However, it is understood that most of the £10 million that it will take to purchase the club is coming from a US investor with a history of football ownership in MLS."

We've been saying since Covid kicked in there were many clubs in danger of financial disaster, and whilst this might be good news is it a club taking on any old buyer to get them out the clarts.
I don't keep up to date with how other clubs are being run but Charlton have been a a tightrope for ages.

The outgoing owner is still going to own the ground as well I belive. It could all get a bit 'Coventry' this tbh.

Contrast that to us owning our stadium and training facilities plus its all bought and paid for.

The new owners will own the players and the name of the club, plus TV rights, etc.

No idea how much debt they've taken on though.

There is too much murky ownership models in this country. Absolute travesty when you think back to clubs being owned by local businessmen with a level of community interest. All hidden behind lawyers and accountants setting up all kind of ownership vehicles. All governed by bodies not fit for purpose. Very sad.

We are lucky mate, like you say. KLD seems to have a large slice of common sense. Common sense being something the fit and proper person test seems not to check. He is a long term guy, with a deep passion for football. Joey Barton is normally someone I would give the time of day too, but he had it right about KLD - very serious operator.

Over the next 10 years I predict some clubs, who are now enjoying money orientated success, disappearing down a plug hole. Man City may be a case in point, but I have a feeling Liverpool may be one to find out first what it is like to have the bankroll taken away.

I look forward to the publication of the fan led review this week. I have an inkling we are going to be pleasantly surprised and this week may be one that suddenly shows light at the end of the money rules all tunnel.

I think there is a bit of history with Methven and that Warrick fella in charge of the finances now a Charlton. Interesting to to see how this one plays out over the next 12 months.

Over the years, and because of the playoffs, I think Sunderland and Charlton will always be entwined. I actually dont mind Charlton.

Over and over again they were saying it and were absolutely stunned that they were the only ones who could see it! <laugh>

When did he say that? If it was while he was our owner it must have ****ing killed him as he had a weird obsession with us all to play up to them lot!

They were absolutely sure they were right and berated anyone who didn't agree. Even when it was proved, beyond any doubt, some were still insisting it wasn't a takeover ...

    ... some still won't accept it <doh>

I'm sure Lenagen has been involved with Charlton before, either as involved with an owner, working there or trying to buy them. There does seem to be a lot of names dropping up getting involved with teams that seem very, very familiar, and not in a good way

The Charlton owner must have spend more time in the courts actually trying to buy the club than he did actually owning them. He was talking about making them one of the Premier League's biggest clubs, less than 3 years ago. Another absolute fraud of a football owner. It doesn't sound like it's going to get any better for them either.

Another thing to this… There are still a number of Sunderland fans who think Methven is a shareholder at ASAFC. Pretty sure he can’t have shares with safc then buy another club in the English leagues. Might shut the idiots up

He keeps on getting past the fit and proper owner’s qualification which is a surprise given his part in Sunderland’s buy out.
