I didn't want to go down this route as I'm seen as making excuses for "Ted" but its another valid point. The foul on Gnonto which wasn't given (when his boot came off) was a yellow and then Aurier would have been on the back foot for the last 20 minutes against him. He got carded later for a professional foul which he couldn't have made on a booking so that one decision to not give the foul actually stopped two of our most promising attacks in the 2nd half. These little things have a big impact on how the game plays out and we aren't getting many of them in our favour. Do things even out over a season? It doesn't seem so in our case.
On paper our team is better and that showed in the first half. Second half Cooper made a change to their formation and we could have played another 45 minutes we were never going to score. in comparison Jesse does his predetermined substitutions on a like for like basis, completely blind to the fact that what worked in the first half is no longer working. We play some weird as **** tactic overloading down the left and tripping over each other, we made it so easy for Forest in the second half. When we appointed Armas as assistant I said at the time, that appointment was the safety net for the 49ers to sack Jesse and leave him as caretaker, if he shines he’s our new coach, if he fails we get someone new. Rutter was an expensive luxury, a new LB and another CB were the obvious choices and we ignored it. We need to stop blaming Stuijk, he’s not a LB and if he’s keeping Firpo out whilst playing as poor as he is then it really should have been fixed
Stop Letting the facts get in the way of the narrative, that it’s all the system and ted getting out coached. The fact that they made changes to park the bus at half time tells you which coach had actually been ‘out coached’. Hardly rocket science. Throw defensive players on to try and hang on.
Just got in from airport, read the whole thread without knowing the score. Guess what? Concede a soft early goal, miss chances in the first half. Second half oppo manager changes thinks to frustrate us so we create nothing. FFS same story every ****ing week.
Have to agree, it’s not the players. Overall they’re more than good enough. And it’s also not their fault they’re having to play without a decent left back.
Having watched this load of rubbish I feel the I should make a comment. I normally don't as I'm not very good at it. But this morning I watched my grandsons under 9 play. Unfortunately the young lad at centre forward is better than any of are forwards and scored 3 today. I will not give you the name of my lads team as I don't want to loose him.
Of the 7 games we've played in 2023. Struijk gave away a penalty against West Ham when he didn't realise Bowen was on him. First goal at Cardiff was Struijk not understanding that strikers will try and run in behind you. He also got turned for the 2nd but I'll give him leeway on that one. He was centre half that day btw. Both Villa goals was him showing a left footed right winger inside allowing him to get shots away. That's him not learning from his mistakes. He didn't play in the 5-2 win vs Cardiff or the win at Accrington. Back in the side today and gave the cheap foul away and then failed to clear from the resulting free kick which caused the goal. So this calendar year he has played in 5 games and been at fault for 5 goals (possibly 6). We've won the two games he hasn't played. It's not me with my head in the sand bud.
It's not all of them. I'm specifically picking in one area. It has cost us goals for over 18 months now. Consistently cost us goals. I'm not making it up. Its out there for anyone to have a look at. The fact its not been fixed YET again is a disgrace.
100% on the bit in bold. If that’s down to orta insisting on rutter for his future value… or Jesse not pushing for a full back. (I assume we’ll see wober there on Wednesday with cooper and Koch in the middle) I don’t know - but for all the utter bollocks spouted about systems and tactics, the reality is this is what’s costing us every fckg week. Marsch should have insisted on a left back and a replacement for llorente. For that he’s totally culpable in my opinion.

But it’s easy to blame him for the defeat when the misses by Sinisterra and Gnonto in the first half were just as bad. Without his mistake it would have been 0-0 which still isn’t good enough
100% ^^^^ I said the exact same thing before the game. I had that much confidence that Struijk was a disaster that I even backed Johnson to score a goal at anytime at 5-2. His head has gone, he needs taking out of the firing line. I can't believe I'm saying this but he's worse than Firpo at the moment. Next game needs to be.. Ayling, Koch, Cooper, Wober
No mate, we still can’t break teams down because we play some **** overloading one side tactic but we beat two crappy reserve team minnows in the cup so we think we’re great. Because Jesse does straight like for like substitutions because he is a **** stain of a coach who can’t read a game
