I don't disagree that he is very very insecure. Most of his interviews confirm that. But what has his height got to do with it ?
You've hit the nail on the head. I used to work with someone who got promoted by the fact that they were the only one left in the team (they were database admins), then they employed a team to work under him. He was so inept, but bullied everyone and it was never his fault. He was only saved by having 2 good DBAs under him who carried him through until he could find another job.

He literally set his stall out in his first press conference to say he was tactically flexible and likes to play different systems. Then he said systems don't matter. Now he is saying he has gone away from his system and that's why the team is underperforming. Which is it?

That doesn't answer the question. I am aware of the phenomenon. But not why it applies here. Sure he is insecure. And is short. But there isn't really evidence of a link. I don't think you can say that all insecure short men have "short man syndrome". And I what do men who are taller who behave the same get? A pass on that? Seems a bit like confirmation bias in this case He appears bitter that his first chance at stepping up was such a failure. I'm not sure where his height comes into that
